THE HOUSE OF All Sorts could not have been quite itself in any other spot in the world than just where it stood, here, in Victoria, across James' Bay and right next to Beacon Hill Park. Read the first page

5.0 out of 5 stars So Charming, Jan 12 2012
By Sarah - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: House Of All Sorts, The (Paperback)
The House of All Sorts is one of my favourites from Emily Carr, along with The Book of Small. This one concentrates on the part of her life when she let out rooms in her Victoria B.C house to make ends meet, and bred her sheepdogs. She tells the tales of her tenants with complete honesty and much humor. Her struggles with life as a landlady, the good and bad and riduculous.
This isn't a book about her art (though it does come up in parts) or with the native people that inspired it, Klee Wyck might be better for that.
Loved this book.
