Pop music suitable for grown-ups (great idea!),

This review is from: There Will Be Stars (Audio CD)
There Will Be Stars is a gorgeous, diverse album with lots of different styles, tempos, and sweet melodies. Here you will find bouncy string arrangements, organ, other cute keyboard sounds, piano, horns, and of course guitar. Here you won't find another earnest, self-conscious-guitar-strumming-Canadian-singer-songwriter. The music stands up on its own -- it's not there just to be in the background. The refreshing blend of vocals and music imbue these songs with a lot of colour and warmth. I think this album's of a similar calibre to Emiliana Torrini's highly recommended Me and Armini for it's catchiness and feeling and diversity. Elisapie Isaac sings gently and girlishly in three languages, never trying to be the diva. Her lyrics are generally positive (another great idea) and relatable. I think it's beautiful that Inuktitut, English, and French are all mixed seamlessly -- it doesn't detract at all from my listening pleasure -- and I'm an Anglo guy who never likes Canadian music. And if you like her picture on the cover, just wait till you see the other pics inside! OK, that's not how she's selling it, but I'm just saying... Treat yourself (to the songs, I mean.)

lovely cd by a beautiful voice and woman. i especially liked the song written by Richard desjardins, in French. I recommend this cd for nice light and loungie folk music from a modern native artist.
