Recommended by Curriculum Services Canada, this fun and engaging story, based on three previous children's books by David Suzuki and Eugenie Fernandes, introduces young children to environmental issues without overwhelming them.

In this beautifully illustrated story, a brother and sister go on nature adventures and discover that natural magic is all around them, even in their own home. They find an ocean in their bathroom, dinosaur breath inside their own bodies, and the past and the future in their own backyard.

Published in partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation.

Review

"""This delightful three-chapter book invites learning in the most natural way, unmarred by deadly good-for-you words that can so easily kill a child's curiosity and enjoyment. David Suzuki is a scientist who clearly enjoys sharing his knowledge with children. A glossary...and a list of suggested activities will allow parents and teachers to make the most of these pages.""" (California Coast & Ocean 2009-01-13)

"""There's a Barnyard in My Bedroom is an informative and entertaining environmental book for children. Written by David Suzuki the story has Jamie and Megan going on a hike, inside the house, with their father to learn about nature. They learn about things that came from animals and trees and even items that come from plants that lived millions of years ago.""" (Simcoe.com 2010-09-03)

"""In There's a Barnyard in My Bedroom, acclaimed geneticist and environmentalist David Suzuki takes children and their adult reading companions on a sweeping three-part ecological adventure in picture-book form...Complete with activity suggestions and a glossary, this is a useful tool for environmental exploration with kids.""" (E Magazine 2008-10-21)

This little book has 3 stories inside that are sure to spark the imagination of any child in addition to teach you some things you may not have known about. There are few children books that teach children about being green, this is one of them. Great illustrations and reading for the whole family.

Sweet book by an amazing author. David Suzuki has spent his whole life talking about nature and this book doesn't dumb down any facts about our everyday products and where they come from. My daughter got this book when she was 5 and at 7 she still loves it and we've bought it for others.

5.0 out of 5 stars A blend of education, adventure, and wonder July 11 2008
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
There's a Barnyard in My Bedroom is a children's picturebook with a surprisingly involved story about a boy and a girl who harness the power of imagination to go on incredible adventures. At home, they discover an ocean in the bathroom and a forest in the living room; in their backyard, they find rocks that have existed for millions of years. "'What is a smell, anyway?' 'Actually, what we smell are tiny pieces of something. The pieces are so tiny we can't see them. Dogs can even smell pieces left behind from a person or animal that was here yesterday. Some animals leave smells to mark their territory. And some of those smells smell pretty bad to us." A blend of education, adventure, and wonder, There's a Barnyard in My Bedroom is an enjoyable storybook detailed enough to be suitable for young readers who are almost ready to start chapter books.
