Our Thursday morning book discussion group found a gem in this book. The author has a clear and engaging writing style. Each chapter includes a personal story from her travels to Iona, many fine examples of Celtic Christian prayers, descriptions of Christian practices from centuries ago, but with a view toward inviting and encouraging our modern spiritual practices too. Each chapter closes with a Bible passage/story and a few, well focused discussion questions. Great resource for a group looking for an invitation and guide for deeper, broader spiritual growth.

I had a chance a while back to read "Thin Places; An Evangelical Journey into Celtic Christianity." I found this to be a very good look at how CC impacts and unites the world of evangelical faith. It isn't a doctrinal book nor does it get sucked into the mindless debates of our theology is better than yours. It is a brief text on experiencing all that God is doing around us and in us. Call it a primer, if you so desire. It is one that, in the author's own words, fostering an intimacy with God. For those who have come from an evangelical background, it is a lessening of the burden that is carried much of the time by doing. If you would rather pour over and have esoteric writings, skip this one. If you want a a good introduction to living life in the presence of God, get a copy. Easy to read and practical.
