Product Description

From Amazon.com

On the heels of "Something" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," George Harrison must have felt he had little to prove as a songwriter. But unfortunately for him, those stellar efforts were in service of a band whose main songwriters were named Lennon and McCartney. But when the Beatles partnership dissolved in 1970, Harrison wasted little time in showcasing the body of work he'd accumulated the previous two years--or in trying to take Abbey Road's lavish production ethos to its next logical plateau. The resulting late-1970 double-album (originally released with a third bonus disc of instrumental "Apple Jams," which are still included here) was perhaps the most Beatles-sounding post-Fabs effort, a far cry from the two quirky solo efforts he'd undertaken while still in the band (the authentically Indian Wonderwall Music and the Moog wank-fest Electronic Sounds). Tracks like "Beware of Darkness," "All Things Must Pass," "The Art of Dying," "Isn't It a Pity," and the hit "My Sweet Lord" gave the album a strong spiritual center, balanced by the light-hearted "Apple Scruffs," "If Not For You," and the Bob Dylan collaboration "I'd Have You Anytime." Phil Spector's mammoth, orchestrally laced production took his trademark "wall of sound" to impressive new levels, all the more remarkable in light of the biting, minimalist work he was collaborating with John Lennon on, virtually simultaneously. Far and away Harrison's masterpiece; he'd have been wise to have saved a few of these songs for a rainy day. Jerry McCulley

Cette version remasterisée contient un inédit ("I Live For You"), quatre nouvelles versions de "Beware Of Darkness", "Let It Down", "What Is Life" et surtout "My Sweet Lord". --Hubert Deshouse

4.0 out of 5 stars Digital Harrison Remixed, Jan 22 2010

This review is from: All Things Must Pass (Audio CD)
This release will sound great ripped onto itunes or played on a home entertainment system, and it's well worth having a hard copy if you can get it at a good price. Quite arguably this is George's best album, with top notch song writing and a wide range of country, rock, blues stylings. Very moody. Very derivative and yet a little different from the Beatle years.

Be aware that this album has been remixed. It is de-Spectorized, which some fans will quite like. Note that a lot of compression has been used, and the balance of instruments and voice is often changed. It is a giant sonic improvement over the murky, muddy, flat original EMI cd release. And George was involved in the production.

However, if you really want to still hear this classic album as it was originally intended to sound and feel, either stick with the original vinyl, or track yourself down a copy of Dr.Ebbet's faithful needle-drop release -they are a lot more natural and breathtaking. It's quite a different experience altogether. Ideally, to really enjoy this album one would want this remix and the original vinyl versions. Both can be highly enjoyable, in their own way.

A minor quip perhaps, but I wish they'd also officially re-release the original 45 single version of "My Sweet Lord". Many listeners may not be aware but it was quite a different mix. Too bad it wasn't included here!

Overall,I found the the bonus tracks here of minor interest. Contemporary fans might appreciate the 2000 remix of My Sweet Lord. The outtakes are pretty meager compared to what has surfaced on the bootleg market. Where's the offical Harrsion Anthology to go along with those released by the Beatles and Lennon? It's long overdue!

The Apple Jam tracks are included, minor fluff but a fun listen.

This disc is available in both box and digipack packaging. The artwork is colourfully reproduced, and updated. But I haven't seen a copy of the original poster included with any of the releases.

In my opinion, this remains an essential album if you are a serious Beatle fan. There's a lot to enjoy and still discover within it's grooves!

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, Terrible service, April 5 2012

I ended up giving a mediocre review because of my conflicting feelings about it. The CD, All Things Must Pass, is excellent so on that basis I would like to give it 5 stars. However, the service was abysmal and rates only one or maybe zero stars. So I have ended up with a middle of the road, three star average. I received this product (supposedly) three times. The first two times were the wrong product. After over three months I finally received what I had ordered. To put it mildly, I am not impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Of George Harrison!, July 4 2004

When The Beatles were a group Harrison was the least noticed of
the "Fab Four".When the Beatles decided to break up and go out on their own he rocked the world with this album. This album
became a best seller and an instant hit. When you would turn on the radio during the 1970's you would hear a song off of this album. Not only was the album a best seller,Harrison also had two
singles that were also big.One of the songs was "What Is Life".
The other song that turned into a megahit was "My Sweet Lord".
You can still turn on the radio today(30 years later) and still
hear this song being played.Another song that I still remember
from this album was "If Not For You".George Harrison had struck
it big on his own.He recently died and will be sorely missed. If
you want to hear good music and own a piece of history purchase
this CD.You will never forget it.
