Product Description

From Library Journal

Taosports embodies an Eastern philosophical and religious approach to optimizing experiences. According to the authors, "thinking body, dancing mind means that you have within you all that you need to be and to do anything you wish." The authors provide many exercises for the best utilization of this process. The tools include visualization, focusing, and centering. Examples of how athletes and others have benefited by incorporating elements of Taosports are included throughout. Other books by Huang include Embrace Tiger, Return to Mountain (Celestial Arts Pr., 1990) and Quantum Soup (Celestial Arts Pr., 1988). This self-improvement guide gives a taste of Tao but should not be considered an introduction to that subject. Buy for demand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learned more about myself, Jun 26 2009
By
D. Esseltine - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Thinking Body, Dancing Mind: Taosports for Extraordinary Performance in Athletics, Business, and Life (Paperback)
I first came across the title of this book in a Ski magazine as recommended reading for young women professional skiers and it piqued my interest so I went searching for it. I read some of the other reviews before buying the book. Mostly it was enjoyed by the readers, although their were a few readers that appeared to be beyond the basic Tao principals outlined throughout the book.
I bought it because I was looking for a different way of thinking and to improve my training focus for my first half marathon. This book helped me by centering my thoughts and goals; learning more about who I am and that many of the personal issues faced could be overcome.
Yes, this book may be the basic teachings of Tao Te Ching, but if you are just getting interested in a sport or you want to be aware of who you are or can be, each chapter imparts simple messages that guide toward accomplishing these goals.
I have continued with others readings and have referred back to this book when needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!, Dec 17 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Thinking Body, Dancing Mind: Taosports for Extraordinary Performance in Athletics, Business, and Life (Paperback)
I am in graduate school for Sports Psychology and this book hits at the heart of what works for athletes. This is an Eastern-thinking text, so if you do not agree with that philosophy, you will not like this book.
Not only can this book be a reference for the athlete, it is also a reference book for living. I love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Important Tool for Committed Athletes, Dec 2 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Thinking Body, Dancing Mind: Taosports for Extraordinary Performance in Athletics, Business, and Life (Paperback)
This book addresses most of the stumbling blocks many athletes encounter in their quest for excellence. It then suggests specific guidelines for achieving not only performance excellence but also an internal sense of calm and satisfaction with the effort and accomplishment.
The format is succinct and easily used as a reference when specific concepts need to be reviewed. It is not a deeply theoretical book. Rather, it is a very practical and, in my experience, highly effective friend. It has totally changed my approach to my sport (and to my life) with wonderful results.
