2.0 out of 5 stars Thirteen Hours - Meghan O'Brien, May 26 2012

This review is from: Thirteen Hours (Paperback)
What can I say about this book. It read like pure pornography from beginning to end. If you like S & M and every other form of deviant sex acts you'll love this book. There is no real story and the characters are two dimensional. Don't get me wrong I love sex as much as the next person and I especially love lesbian fiction. I've bought and read literally hundreds of lesbian novels from many different authors but this one I really struggled to get through. Personally I like a story that gradually takes the characters into intimate situations. The only other piece I would like to add at this time is that I have read two other books of Meghan O'Brien, Wild and Battle Scars and I found them both to be entertaining reads. I just didn't much care for this particular book. You'll have to decide for yourself. Sorry Meghan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Buying, July 15 2009

I admit it ... I bought it because of the cover. It piqued my interest. Uh huh. However, for those that aren't sucked in by picutres and I am sure there are a few of you out there, I have provided the teaser from the back cover.

Teaser on the back cover:

"How long does it really take to fall in love?

It's her birthday, but lonely workaholic Dana Watts is at the office late, drafting a proposal. She is interrupted by the very last thing she would have expected: the most beautiful breasts she has ever seen. These belong to an incredibly hot stripper, a birthday present from a friend who thinks she needs to loosen up.

Laurel Stanley has never encountered a more ungrateful strip-o-gram recipient than Dana. The uptight project manager makes it clear that she is furious to be distracted from her work and equally appalled by Laurel's occupation.

When Dana insists on escorting Laurel from the building, the two women take an elevator ride that changes everything. Stuck with each other for thirteen long hours after the elevator breaks down, they discover how wrong first impressions can be -- and how right two strangers can feel together.

Can everything change in less than a day?

Dana and Laurel set out to discover if their passionate elevator encounter can mean more in this fast-paced, erotic story of lust, loneliness, fantasy, and desire."

3.0 out of 5 stars Rather Disappointing, Oct 23 2011

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Thirteen Hours (Paperback)
As there are already several reviews for this book, I'll skip the synopsis and backstories and get right to it: I found this story lacking. Although very hot and mindful of human anatomy (particularly female), there was way too much sex and not enough story and character behind it. (And this is coming from a guy who bought this mainly for the sex reason.)

Although the two don't get together wham-bam, after they do, the sex is practically non-stop with a few short fluff chapters to break up the eroticism. And the fluff doesn't really add anything either; we only see the two protagonists, Dana and Laurel, when they're madly in love with each other. Even when they eventually do have a fight after their life-changing elevator hook-up, it's so short and easily resolved it's more a heated discussion than a flat-out argument.

This may sound overly critical, given that it says "Erotic Romance Novel' on the cover, but I was still expecting more. If this was a porno, it would be surprisingly deep, but as a more serious, though admittedly very steamy, romance novel it falls pretty short.
