I enjoyed this book. It was wonderful to be reacquainted with Yunior. Being bilingual, I enjoy the Spanish/English banter. However, after 'The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao', expectations were different. For me, this book did not deliver what I expected. However, the stories of love and loss are something everyone can relate to. I love Junot; he can do no wrong. Just do not look for 'Oscar' in these stories. Is it a good read? Definitely.

Junot Diaz is a beautiful writer - the short stories are all funny, smart, beautiful and heartbreaking. This is a book that will stay with you long after you've read it - and you'll return to reread it again and again.

Head a lot of good things about Diaz and had really enjoyed another one of his novels (Brief Wondrous life) but this was just disappointing.

Diaz has this uncanny ability to describe things like they are. From a very specific perspective. He gets it bang on. Accent, attitude, style, behaviour and approach. He does not leave anything out. His books are soo thoroughly entertaining that I find myself laughing outloud and being able to relate exactly to the behaviour or mood that he is describing.

Highly recommend his newest book. But DEFINITELY and even more enthusiastically recommend his first piece, "The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" - that one is gold!
