Oh, how I love this series - had to cross the Amazon border and get my copy for viewing in the states - to show to my friends who live further south and have no chance to see it otherwise. Will definitely buy Season Two and Three (and so on and so on). The cast is tremendous, the storylines seem so 'real'. So many other lawyer shows deal only with 'high society'. Not Wonderland. The writers cast their stories in the world around us. Great writing. Great acting. Great show. Great DVD's - nicely packaged.

I work with seriously mentally ill people, and I see them go through the court system every day. This show is the first legal drama I've ever seen that even addresses the concept of mental health court or the realities of being crazy in court. The first episode's Kafka-esque outline of the case of Mr. Orsos (Orkos) is just excruciating to watch and all too realistic.
Thinking about going into psychiatry? Watch this show. Completely UNLIKE Law and Order. My only frustration - we never find out what happens eventually - much like real life in some of these cases.
Can't wait for the 2nd season to come out...

This is Wonderland is a fabulous Canadian series. For those who don't know it takes place in Toronto's municipal courts and deals mostly with the downtrodden and mentally unstable. The series is both funny and heart wrenching with some very sharp writing. The cast is marvelous as are pretty much all the guest actors. This is Wonderland confirms that Canada has mnay excellent actors. But you don't have to be Canadian to enjoy it.

I am not going to complain to much about this show being cancelled by the CBC, except that I am dissapointed that it was and CBC had better have something amazing up its sleeves to replace it.
But enough on that. This show was brilliant, Season 1 naturally introduced you to all of main characters from Alice to Elliot and to all of the judges, whose names I can't recall right now but they can be found in the Cast section of this site. All of the characters are expertly played and even the temporary characters that just come in for one show are done extremely well.
This show mixed comedy and drama with ease, you can go from feeling down while watching a scene in mental health court to laughing watching Elliot use his own logic to try to convince people that his clients are innocent.
Speaking of mental health court, after seeing Corner Gas I can't help but smile at the fact that the judge that presides over mental health court is non other then Eric 'Oscar' Peterson.
As for the DVD itself, it comes on 3 discs with all of Season 1's episodes, all in widescreen, which is nice to see. Theren't aren't many special features with it, there are a few never aired TV promos and such but nothing spectacular, which doesn't bother me since I didn't get it expecting anything more.
The bottom line is that this a great TV show, it may not be as famous as Corner Gas or Trailer Park Boys, but it's a true gem that deserved a better fate and if you are a fan of good TV then you definitely need to pick it up.

After I had read the reviews here - thank you, guys! - I decided to buy the DVD. Normally I am very reluctant to buy anything other than the tried and well known TV series that come from the States but after the rave reviews here I gave it a shot. Boy, was I surprised: one of the best shows I have ever seen on TV. A show that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. The acting is so realistic at times that you wonder if these are really actors or the real thing. Faces not known from TV with a superb craft and skill make you forget you are watching just a TV show. The last episode moved me beyond any emotion I had felt in a long time. Thank you for that! A gem!

The title does say it all. I do admit that I find it strange that so much Canadian DVD product becomes unavailable to retailers other than the CBC Shop so fast. Another CBC disc, Air Farce Live, is not available any longer from anyone (As far as I can tell) other than the CBC, and it's barely 5 months since that disc was released.
This series was great, and it was a Bad Decision to let it drop. But, unfortunately, that happens far too often with CBC shows.
And, why is there so few DVD sets of successful Canadian shows ? Rick Mercer's excellent Made In Canada, at least 4 seasons aired, and only the 6 episode season came oit, and is now very out of print.

In my opinion one of the best programs ever produced by CBC. Wish I could buy the other two seasons. Should have been kept on longer.
