Product Description

First of all, hats off to Bon Jovi for trying something different with This Left Feels Right--a selective collection of their most popular songs with a twist. That twist isn't a purely acoustic reworking, MTV unplugged style--anybody looking for that experience will be sorely disappointed by what's on offer. What Bon Jovi have done is re-record these songs in a completely different way while maintaining the original lyrics, melody and song structure. What's different then? Well, quite a bit actually. Check out the almost trip-hop beat and distorted vocal of "Wanted Dead or Alive", or the lazy soul of "Livin' on a Prayer". "It's My Life" is a beautiful piano-only standout, almost worth having the whole album for.

The tracklisting isn't perfect, concentrating largely on their 1980s period (there's nothing from These Days, for instance). As such, the venture works as an effective cheese-extraction exercise, keeping the elements that made the originals so great, but removing shouty, hairspray-fuelled "whoa-yeahs". What we get is something that is closer to Jon Bon Jovi's last solo offering--the criminally underrated Destination Anyway. It doesn't always work ("Bed of Roses" just sounds like a warbling cover of the powerful original and by the time they reach "Always" it's obvious they've run out of new twists), and no doubt there will be legions of bemulleted faithfuls who will denounce this as blasphemy of the highest order. Sure, it's probably just record-company filler, but it's a worthwhile investment and you won't be embarrassed to have it on when your mates come round. --Cortman Virtue

1.0 out of 5 stars Who approved this record???? July 13 2004
Format:Audio CD
Bon Jovi released a new album on Tuesday. It's called "This Left Feels Right". For those of you not in the know, it is made up of some of their older songs, pretty much hits, but re-made. mostly acoustic and stripped down and built back up.
Now, there is precident for this. The Cure did "Mixed Up" - taking some of their songs and remixing them, Euro-Club style. Bush did it with Deconstruction, some guy came in and made their bigger songs techno. Some bands just opt to do something different, for artistic liberties. Look at the new Aerosmith record that has been in the works - supposed to be a straight blues record. And then some bands are just looking to change their sound. Now, I can appreciate all of these things. And even if they don't work, the band tried, that is what art is about. Take all of this from the guy who grew up wearing out his copy of Hysteria, but felt that Slang was the best album Def Leppard ever wrote... Also realize that I appreciate new takes on old material. Acoustic guitars playing Pour Some Sugar on Me worked well.
trainwreck. at some point, someone thought it was a good idea. I am amazed it saw record stores shelves. i am having trouble finding redeeming qualities here. I read the reviews on amazon before listening, but didn't want to believe. how could it be that bad....
1. dead or alive. i heard that this was the one track people liked. i wonder what cd they were listening to, because it couldn't have been this one. has this really annoying bass-like thump to it that WON"T STOP! and 2 or 3 times it has a glimpse of full on rock - for about a bar's worth of music, then cuts out as abruptly as it came in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Niente prese in giro... May 24 2004
Format:Audio CD

3.0 out of 5 stars John, your not Springsteen April 14 2004
Format:Audio CD
I'm a great Bon Jovi fan. I've seen them live twice and own almost all of their albums. They are without a doubt one of the world's premier stadia rock bands, up there with the best: Van Halen, Aerosmith, ACDC...
That being said, however, when they diverge from their trademark sound, they often come across as a mediocre, even below average, generic soft-rock group.
Clearly, Jon and Richie would dream of being considered alongside the likes of Springsteen, Jagger/Richards or Dylan. Unfortunately, they just can't pull it off.
They and their songs don't hold up those of their rolemodels. Songs like Living on a Prayer and Keep the Faith are great rock songs, but lack the lyrical content and emotion to work accoustically. Hearing John and Richie sings about how life's tough for Jeena or how he wants to be a cowboy just doesn't work when you see them playing guitars on stage that are worth -literally- tens of thousands of dollars.
Bon Jovi should stick at what they do best -Rock! And, when they do, there ain't no stopping them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bon Jovi has grown up...Deal with it April 13 2004
Format:Audio CD
I have heard many bad reviews about this album and in my opinion, those who feel the band has butchered many fan favorites is, grow up. You can't keep releasing the same songs in the same manner indefinately. This album puts a new spin on their old songs and I like it. No, scratch that, I love it. It shows that Bon Jovi, a band that has been around for 20+ years, are not stuck in the past. They are not afraid to grow up as their fans have, but they have not passed over their new fans as well. With Jon and the rest of the band not only being married and having families, in Jon's case expanding his family, they are still rocking as they did during their 80's youth. There is nothing wrong with releasing an album with old and new songs being performed in a differrent light. This album was done for their lifelong fans who have been with them from the beginning and continue to be with them. This album is great and I will continue to listen to it in my car, house and anywhere I can pop my CD and crank it up.

It wasn't what I was expecting. I bought it because it was the most current "greatest hits" CD. It's sort of a mellow version of the songs, though. Read more
