5.0 out of 5 stars This Old Man March 11 2009
By Gin
Format:Board book
I was biased in buying this because I enjoyed it very much as a child. The colours are fabulous (all of Pam Adams' work seems to be) and I was surprised to find it now in board book format! My son doesn't like to sit through me reading this to him yet (he's 15 mos) but he will sit and read it to himself. Beyond that, this book is "lasting" because it becomes a sing-along book and great for learning addition.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great teaching tool July 19 2000

This is a terriffic book for use in the music classroom, and at home. As a book that can be either sung or read, it is versatile. It's large size and colorful illustrations draw kids attention. I have personally found it to be very effective with my kindergarten through third grade students. I highly reccommend it to anyone looking for a good book for younger kids that can be sung or read! I highly suggest Pam Adams books.

My 2-year-old loves to sing the song along with me, and loves to hold this sturdy book. The illustrations are eye-catching and hold his interest until we finish the song. The rhythm of the tune helped him learn more complex word patters like "came rolling home." It is printed in bright colors, on thick paper, and can withstand some toddler handling. This book is similar to the other books illustrating children's folk tunes, but this is by far my son's favorite!

1.0 out of 5 stars This Old Man March 22 2010
By Isla R. Wilson - Published on Amazon.com

I bought the book to read to my two year old grandson. It is too busy! The pictures don't relate to the text. For instance: This old man he played two. He played nick nack on my shoe. In the picture there is a pirate with one leg a sword and a gun, two puffins, two killer whales and two seagulls. There really isn't a shoe unless you consider the boot on the one legged pirate. The pages get busier and busier as it goes. The picture pages stop at 6 instead of going all the way to ten. On the page with six it had addition problems with cut out circles that fill a whole page the pictures are very small on the opposite page. They have verses 7 through 10 on the back page and all of the pictures to go with it, but all very small. Much to busy for a young child. Perhaps better for a child in Kindergarten or first grade when the addition can be part of the learning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect gift for babies. Jan. 4 2014

After reading (and singing) this book to my grandchildren over and over, I try to get one for all my friends who are new grandparents. It teaches colors, each page is a different bright color. It teaches numbers with many objects to count on each page, but the holes are what attract the little ones most. My advice is to take the CD out and use it alone without the book and sit and cuddle the little one while you read and sing the book. The pages are sturdy and teach the chilren to turn actual pages instead of big pieces or cardboard.

The quality of this book was very good, however, it did not contain a CD like it advertised. A little disappointed.
