Excellent,

This review is from: This is all I ask (Mass Market Paperback)
This has to be one of the most beautifully written romance novels I have ever read. It's a touching story that brings out so much emotions. You will definitely LOVE this book. It's a real gem.

This review is from: This is all I ask (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book because of the many strong reviews here but it did not live up to the raves. It was a passable read (if you're desperate for a medieval romance novel) but had little-to-no plot, hard to believe misunderstandings/tension between the hero and heroine, and seriously tepid sex scenes. The story started out promisingly enough. Twenty-one year old woman who's been kept as a virtual prisoner by horribly abusive father is sprung from her nightmare home by a marriage offer from a knight friend of her deceased warrior brother. The girl goes along because she has no choice, even though her husband to be has a fearsome reputation as a warlock and all around dark prince. Of course, as she gets to know her new husband, she learns he's not the monster she feared. They fall in love. And that's about it. Little more happens. The young woman was hard to take. Her ignorance/innocence might have been believeable in a 16-year-old but at 21? Even in the 13th century? The hero protests too much--again and again. He has a serious physical handicap but his belief about how that affects his desirability to woman just didn't wash with me. The tensions in this story came off as fabricated and that's just one example. This novel needed a plot with authentic conflict, more complex hero and heroine and it needed to be more erotic. Not necessarily explicit but the essense of a good romance, be it PG or NC-17, is that the reader senses intense sexual desire and, eventually, satisfaction. This story didn't deliver.

A Truly Touching Tale,
By A Customer
This review is from: This Is All I Ask (Paperback)
I've read this book twice already in less than a year and each time I just can't seem to put it down. What I loved about it was just how well defined the characters are. Their innocence, feelings, pain, and love are strong enough that they let the reader relate to them, and it draws us in to their story. It is the characters that really drew me in. This is a story of tender love that is given the chance to grow and flourish. Both so unsure of themselves, unsure of what the other thinks, yet they learn to overcome this. It is the story of two injured souls that learn to trust again and above all else...they learn to love agian. I loved the relationship that grew between Gillian and Christopher. I felt their love and felt their pain. I also thought the supporting characters were wonderfully written as well. You know that it is a good book when you find yourself having such strong feelings for each charater. There is also such a great message in this book- that it is what's on the inside that matters. If you like touching tales of romance that can make you laugh and cry, then this is definitely the book for you. I highly recommend it!
