excellent portrayal of horse racing Aug. 7 2011
By carn - Published on Amazon.com
I watched this video last night and was very impressed with the authenticity of the horse racing industry as was portrayed in this film. I have lived in Saratoga Springs, NY (where the oldest thoroughbred race course in the country is located) most of my adult life. I have been involved in thoroughbred horse racing for many years - I have owned horses, gone to race tracks across the country, and have visited many horse farms in Kentucky - and I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary.

Beautifully crafted, this Blu-ray of THOROUGHBRED: BORN TO RUN, takes me back to a lovely time in my youth, when I was lucky enough to live in Lexington, KY. I love learning about the horses running free in huge white fenced pastures, the racing at racetracks and the people who are involved with horses as support or owners. Driving down stacked limestone fenced lanes and hearing about the history of dedicated horse breeders is my idea of a perfect way to spend an evening....this video has taken me there, repeatedly, and I love it!

Disappointed! June 16 2011

I was hugely disappointed in this video--too many talking heads--not enough horses.

I am enthralled by the beauty and majesty of horses and expected to see to see them in action. Instead most of the approximate hour and a half was spent looking at some not particularly attractive people talk with occasional scenes of mild horse activity. Even the breeding segment was less than interesting. Perhaps the editors for that sequence were relatives of those who kept the double bed out of the movies that were made in the 30's and 40's! National Geographic did a better recording of breeding activity in the "Noble Horse". Very powerful stuff.

I had hopes for the 2009 Derby segment, but even that was less than expected. Should have been able to acquire some of the footage from the folks who broadcast the coverage on race day. I still had not given up when I went to the special features and played "The Great Rivalry Between Alydar and Affirmed. All talk and not even one of those great races was shown.

Best thing about this recording is the case cover! Save your money or order Disney's Secretariat. It's great!
