1.0 out of 5 stars A day I wished would never come Jan. 19 2010
Easily, one of the worst science fiction films of the last 10 years. Keanu is wooden, and is certainly no Michael Rennie. This is a movie that should never have made. Blu-ray admitedly looks great, but that's all this is -- pleasant images on a big TV to distract you from the disaster that is this remake. The heart of the story has been gutted, the great character that was Klaatu has been replaced by Ted Theodore Logan aka Neo.

Hollywood, please leave the classics alone. You can't make 'em better with computers and Keanu Reeves.

Avoid, unless easily amused.

1.0 out of 5 stars Insult to Original Film Oct. 29 2013
By Stephen Bieth TOP 50 REVIEWER
This was easily one of the worst remakes ever done. The original is a classic. The only real special effects were at the beginning and the end. In the story Klatu comes to earth and warns us if we take our aggressive nature into space there are consequences. The rest off the universe has built robots that come into action if there is any physical conflict. So we are to leave our "Petty squabbles" on earth. The movie follows Klatu when he lives among earths people.
Now the new one. In this train wreak the alien come to earth because we are destroying the environment. This has none of the story about him dealing with the people of earth, he has some sort of super powers. The whole thing is just stupid.
If you want cool looking special effects you will like parts of this film. If you enjoy great films maybe you can give it away!

1.0 out of 5 stars The Mystery of Remakes Aug. 14 2013
As a long time movie buff, I just can't understand why, without exception, the remake of any film never matches up with the original. You would think that with the advancement of technology, experience in the art form and the abundance of acting talent, that remakes should excel or at least match in quality the production of the original.

The Reeves version of The Day The Earth Stood still is a prime example of this fact. Other films come to mind such as The Dennis Quaid version of The Flight Of The Pheonix compared to the Jimmy Stewart production. True Grit with the Bridges versus the much better original with John Wayne...admittedly Bridge's performance was commendable but no match to Wayne's portrayal for sheer character depth...need I go on?

My customer was very happy with the DVD. It arrived before it was actually scheduled to do so, so that was a bonus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Watching May 21 2009
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
I saw the original movie of The Day the Earth Stood Still and enjoyed it
but this one "Blew my Mind" in the vernacular of today. The graphics were
excellent and the story held my attention from start to finish. It was
a believable movie and worth watching again. You wont be disappointed, that
is if you are a Science Fiction buff like I am. No, I don't care for all
Science Fiction movies but the more modern and believable ones are to my
taste. I recommend that you add this to your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Movie June 9 2009
By Grim
I avoided watching this movie because of the fairly poor reviews it received. Critics always focus on what a movie could have been instead of taking it for what it is. They think if it's not the next greatest masterpiece it's not worthy of their attention.

1. Ignore the reviews.
2. Rent the movie.
3. Make some popcorn.
4. Enjoy yourself for crying out loud.....sheesh.
