5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting human drama, Nov 17 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Three Great Novels: The New Rector, Talk Of The Village, Village Matters (Paperback)
I have read all of rebecca Shaw's novels, having first found them in Britain.
They are centered on small casts of characters living together in small rural settings. She uses this arrangment to comment on the current state of society in Britain and to describe the foibles of humankind. I find them amusing and entertaining. They are not weepy, female fiction, but they do focus on the interaction of the characters. If you enjoy this sort of story that takes its force from the characters rather than the action, you will like these books.

LOvely visit with the folks in an English village with an insiders view of all the dynamics. Good depth of characterization.
One feels ones knows the people as if they were in ones' own life. Great Read

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope to be satisfied!, July 3 2010

This review is from: Three Great Novels (Paperback)
These books are part of a series that I started reading from my local library, but found that after the first couple of books, they are not published in the U.S., so finding them has not been easy. I enjoyed the first few in the series, and, while I haven't read this one yet, I expect that it will be equally enjoyable. The series takes place in a small Engish village, and includes an interesting cast of characters. Each book introduces new characters, but the main ones stay the same, and are the pivotal characters throughout the series.
