Product Description

When it comes to creating a home, "Thrifty Chic" shows you how to reuse and restore, revive and revamp, and recycle and reclaim, in order to create a stylish yet individual home without spending a small fortune. Room by room, the book explains how to give old furniture a new lease of life and how to bring a vintage charm to a room through an inspired use of fabrics and paints. There are ideas for window dressings and bed and table linens, projects for jazzing up old wooden furniture, and suggestions for pulling together mismatched items into cohesive schemes. The all-important finishing touches--display, china and ceramics, glassware, paintings and frames, fabrics and trims--are covered in detail, and you can learn how to create a variety of stylish accessories for your home. Get insiders' tips on what to look for at antique markets and in thrift stores, and how to care for and restore your bargain purchases. Whether you are creating your first home on a tight budget, or wanting to give your existing home a new look, "Thrifty Chic" contains a treasure trove of irresistible ideas for interiors. *Thrift is the new "spend", and reusing and recycling rather than throwing away are now seen as an essential part of modern living. *Learn how to create a stylish and comfortable home without spending a small fortune. *Stunning photography by Simon Brown.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book with beautiful photos, Mar 5 2010

This review is from: Thrifty Chic (Hardcover)
This is a gorgeous book full of generous photos and helpful descriptions about how to achieve a beautiful interior on a budget from both used materials and affordable new buys (with emphasis on the former). A must-have for anybody interested in vintage chic or flea market style decor. I cannot disagree more with the reviewers who say Rachel Ashwell's books are preferable to this one. Ashwell's books focus one HER style: wrinkly flowery fabrics, distressed wood finishes, and WHITE walls. Not for everyone. Thrifty Chic is not only for Ashwell's shabby chic followers, but also features spreads of different styles including modern style spaces. The point is that you can decorate your place on a budget and achieve a completely unique style, not a carbon copy of a mail order catalog. Great tips, great photos, great projects. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed reading this book and love the pretty pictures - it has inspired me to go out treasure hunting. They also have some instructions for some decorator items you can make for your home - which are nice. I just wish the book was a little longer.

Very interesting. The way things are shown that I would have never thought of. I have thrown out better things that were used in the book. I won't do that again.
