Review
From the moment you open this brilliant photo collection, you feel as if you have stepped into an intimate history of snowboarding and the culture which surrounded it as it grew from a backyard pastime to a multimillon dollar industry. With his keen eye and intimate feel for a split second ,Ruben Sanchez has, through his cameras' aperature and focusing rings(note the title), captured the soul of snowboarders and has illuminated the essence of what it is that they do.There is more to this photo journey than breathtaking vistas, sick tricks, and sweet snowboarding style.Through the Rings reveals the diverse photo collection which has a made him one of the top snowboard photographers today. In this inaugural anthology, play on the mountain is complimented with surf play, street play, skate play, and plain hangin around.Awe-inspiring alpenglow, everyday life at Lake tahoe ,and world travel are all touched with Sanchez' seasoned eye.I have no doubt that this book will sit on coffee tables long after the empty beer cans, the frayed Snowboarder and Transworld magazines ,and the overused winter socks have been cleared away. After one look at "through the rings",one will be left withthe hope that"real"life will be able to live up its stunning portrayal as see on the other side of this talented photographers camera! --
