My daughter watched this as a child over and over and over. I was very pleased to find it and gave it to her as an adult, she loved it all over again and watches with children in the family.

I love this film. And I am fifteen. I have always liked it. It was my favorite film as a toddler.

I know you probably already know all about the story about Thumbelina, but I am going to tell you anyway. The movie version.

It starts out with the swallow (I don't know how to spell his name but it sounds like shockimo with an accent)telling the story of how Thumbelina came to be. It goes on to show how Thumbelina thinks she is the only one her size. She then meets Prince Corneliouse (I don't think I spelt that right) whom she falls in love with. He promises to visit her the next day, but in the night she is captured by toads. The mother wants Thumbelina to marry her son. With the help of the swallow she escapes and tries to find her way home. In the mean time Corneliouse discoveres her missing and tries to find her. But winter is coming! Thumbelina is on her way with her friend the swallow looking for the veil of the fairies (I think that is what it is called). She is however held up by a beetle who in the end doesn't like her. The toad, who has been searching for Thumbelina, gets him to nab the prince for a trap. Corneliouse has also gotten himself in trouble. He has fallen into a lake and the lake froze! Thumbelina finds herself awakening in Mrs. Feildmouse's den. They go to meet Mr. Mole who likes Thumbelina very much and talks Mrs. Feildmouse into helping him woo Thumbelina. Thinking Corneliouse dead Thumbelina finnaly agrees. The Beetle has found the Prince and brought him to the toad and he tells him where Thumbelina is. The toad goes off to get her. The prince is then freed from the ice by some bugs. During her wedding Thumbelina changes her mind about the mole and runs off. Now everybody is after her.

Don Bluth à toujours eu du goût pour réaliser des petits chef d'œuvre, à posséder absolument dans votre vidéothèque :-)

I have some other of his movies that are much better than this movie when it comes to a storyline being put together (such as Secret of NIMH, American Tail 1 and 2, Land Before Time series), but I still got quite a few laughs out of it for me to rate it a 4 star movie. It is based on a story by Hans Christian Anderson. The animation was very well done and the music was good too. Sometimes I find it hard for me to find anything 'really funny' for me but this time I would say that this was a good buy from that perspective. Also, the music that was done in this movie, as there was quite a bit of that too, and was arranged by Barry Manilow. I have never been a fan of him, really, but from the music scores that were in it, they were enjoyable. Bottom line then, for a great price you get a fun movie and yes, I would recommend this as another good movie for our DVD library.

Hadn't seen this movie since I was a kid and the one I remember is the movie with Danny Kaye. So when I saw this DVD version of Thumbelina I wasn't too sure what to expect. However, I was delighted with the animation. It's not a Walt Disney but it was excellent nevertheless and would recommend it for any kid that does not know the story which was written by Hans Christian Andersen. The music is by Barry Manilow and is very catchy with one song leaving you humming it long after you have watched it. Suitable for any age group including adults who are young at heart! One that you will watch over and over again.
