Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

An antiterrorism training seminar facilitates an unexpected reunion between its well-respected instructor, Kyle Parker, and his first love, Jennifer Whitmore, a Miami K-9 Search and Rescue specialist. Memories of their rocky breakup, nearly 15 years before, and Jennifer's pending marriage to one of Kyle's colleagues leaves them temporarily gun-shy. When the two team up to rescue a toddler during a hurricane, the drama and tension overwhelm them, and they soon give in to their renewed passion for each other. Against the backdrop of Sawyer's lushly drawn exclusive Key West Thunder Island resort, Jennifer and Kyle face their biggest obstacle yet--Jennifer's fianc is murdered and the local redneck police chief, believing Jennifer to be guilty of the crime, is hell-bent on making her pay. As the plot unfolds, it becomes evident that everyone is a potential suspect, but Kyle must continue to fight to gain both Jennifer's freedom and her heart. Sawyer (Half Moon Bay) adds whimsy to her satisfying romantic suspense with quirky hotel guests (an inseparable set of twins, a stripper, an eccentric homosexual named Plotzy) and the busybody owner. 5.0 out of 5 stars Another Winner!, Feb 28 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Thunder Island (Paperback)
As all of Meryl's books, this one has a unique setting and a great twist. I don't want to give it away, but I know you'll like it.
The romance is strong. It shows the strength of first love and the tragedy that can alter a life forever. Then your world can be put back together.
I liked the antiterrorist stuff. Very interesting after the events of 9-11.
Sadie, the dog was wonderful. Meryl always has a great animal in her book. A character, not just window dressing.
This book is truly a keeper.

1.0 out of 5 stars Anticlimactic!, Mar 13 2001
This review is from: Thunder Island (Paperback)
This book was, for lack of a more appropriate word, lame. It had a lot of potential, but the characters were given no depth. Just mentioning in passing that a character has emotional complexity doesn't make the reader buy it. Also, it just didn't make enough sense that neither Jenny or Kyle EVER stopped thinking about the relationship they had when they were 15 years old. Give me a break, they're both 30! We're expected to believe that memories and feelings from adolescence are just as fresh, vivid, and automatic to them now - 15 years hasn't changed anything?? Kyle's traveled all over doing anti-terrorist work, yet his teenage liaison with Jenny haunts him daily...but somehow he NEVER got in touch with her again?? Please! And that "you moved and i didn't know your forwarding address" bit is weak enough, but after we've read pages & pages about all of Kyle's high tech electronic equipment - like omnicient laptops and voice-programmed uzis - we're expected to believe he knew of no resources that would help him locate Jenny's telephone number?? The sex (which was pretty minimal) was lackluster, and I couldn't help feeling that the 'sad secret' Jenny had kept hidden was just a manipulative plot device designed to provide the "tug-on-your-heart-strings" portion of the love story. And their ultimate resolution was anticlimactic.

2.0 out of 5 stars MUDDY WATERS SURROUND THUNDER ISLAND, Mar 5 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Thunder Island (Paperback)
Meryl!!! What happened? Thank goodness I didn't read this MS book first. I would have written her off totally. A poor plot with too much technical and terrorist information which did nothing to help the story line. The main characters are boring and underdeveloped. I have to agree with the reader from Boston, Mass who complained about the simplistic language. This is not a keeper. Throw it back! If you haven't read Tempting Fate, Trust No One, Half Moon Bay, etc., you're in for a treat. Buy them. You won't be disappointed.
