Book Description

Feb 1 2006 Marine Mysteries
It is DI Andy Horton's second day back in Portsmouth CID after being suspended for eight months. Whilst out running in the early morning he trips over the battered, naked body of a man. PC Evans has been stabbed the night before, the DCI is up before a promotion board and Sergeant Cantelli is having problems with his fifteen year old daughter. But, Horton's mind is on other things not least of which is trying to prove his innocence after being accused of rape. Beset by personal problems and aided by Cantelli, Horton sets out to find a killer who will stop at nothing to cover his tracks. As he gets closer to the truth, and his personal investigations start to uncover dark secrets that someone would rather not have exposed, he risks not only his career but also his life.

Review

'Rowson adds an appealing hero to the British procedural ranks.' Kirkus'Hoist the sales for DI Andy Horton and his sidekick Barney Cantelli. A series with a fair wind behind it and destined to go far.' Amy Myers 'A gripping read.'Yachts and Yachting Monthly 'Rowson's marine mystery series can do for the Solent what Inspector Morse did for Oxford.' Daily Echo 'A good quality domestic thriller. Strong plot and nice characterisation and dialogue. A notch above the average fare out there. Rowson is clearly a crime writer to watch. Tide of Death is a chance to catch her early.' www.amazon.com

I enjoyed this book by Pauline Rowson. It was the first book of hers that I have read and I know it won't be the last. I enjoy a story that I can immerse myself into and the character of Andy Horton is just so appealing and interesting. The plot was well crafted and the writing professional. A Great read!

This was my first read by this author and as I am rather partial to British writers thought I would give it a go. I'm very glad I did as I enjoyed it very much. I liked the characters and the story and didn't guess the real villain until the very end. I look forward to reading more of the escapades of Di Andy Horton.

My first read by this author started out well. I do enjoy a police procedural, esp a British one. However, about half way through this book really lost me - the story became a tad unbelievable and contrived and then all the gramatical/language errors started, eg "he balled her out"! What? Do you mean "he bawled her out"? Really people! Endings of words (eg "s" or "ed" as in "he had vent his own fury"). Shame! This books needs a decent editor for both line and story/structure.
