Review -Ties that Bind Aug 22 2011
Format:Paperback
This book a first in the Madison Knight series by Carolyn Arnold is a beginning look at the police detective and what makes her tick. As the story progresses we see the woman Madison Knight is and the lengths she goes for justice. Madison Knight is a hold no prisoners police detective. She has intelligence, attention to detail, charm and hard headed determination. Madison Knight is driven bound to her job and justice for the murdered victim. She like a lot of people has to fight bureaucracy and hierarchy just to do her job but if I were the victim I'd want Madison Knight on the job. The story was solid interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat while it took me on a roller coaster ride to its conclusion.
There's only so much an author can tell about their character in one book so I look forward to reading more of this character in future books.
Those who enjoy the Castles series on television, the Kinsey Millhone books by Sue Grafton, or the much heralded Prime Suspect books by Lynda La Plante, which were made into a BBC series, will enjoy this strong take charge woman. They will also enjoy the Author's attention to little details about police procedures making it a more authentic experience.

Perfect for any fan of the crime drama genre Aug 15 2011
By Karen DeLabar - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Carolyn Arnold's "Ties That Bind" follows Major Crimes Detective Madison Knight on her hunt to find a murderer with expensive tastes. Another reviewer mentioned that Arnold's writing style is very close to JD Robb's "In Death" series and he's right. "Ties That Bind" is an intelligent crime drama with a head-strong, determined female lead who isn't afraid to go up against her superiors if it means getting her man. Madison was a very relatable character, someone who has been on the force long enough to see terrible things, yet she still reminds herself that her victim was someone's loved one and its up to her to find them final justice. Arnold created a nice balance with Madison, she's determined without seeming cold and caring without being overly sensitive. My only complaint was that her superiors continued to dismiss her hunches even though I thought they were valid clues and thoughts. Arnold's writing gave just enough information to hold your interest, but not too much to give away the ending. A great read for a fan of the crime drama genre.

From the first page to the very last, you will be on your toes Oct 19 2011
By Collette Scott - Published on Amazon.com

For someone not too familiar with the workings of a police homicide investigation, this story will give you a whole new perspective on what goes on in the real world. No easy answers, not always a direct lead, oftentimes our police officials must sift through numerous lies and misleading information in what many of us would not have the patience to tackle. Ties that Bind tells a story in a methodically paced tale that you will find hard to put down, turning page after page as you wait breathlessly for the next twist. It is realistic yet entertaining, an honest look at human nature and individuals from all walks of life. Nothing is as it seems...

Carolyn Arnold has written a nitty gritty story of a murderer's revenge. Through the various twists and turns, you will never be able to figure out whodunit until the shocking end. I've always considered myself fairly good at picking out the villain, but I will tell you I was surprised at the `ties' that led up to an arrest. Way to go, Carolyn!

A well-written piece with all-too-human characters, I was sucked in from the first page when Madison reached for her chocolate-fix. This was a nicely paced story that was not over the top or unrealistic; in fact, I enjoyed every minute of it. It was entertaining without being too dark or depressing, and I can't wait to read more, Carolyn. Keep them coming!

I thoruoghly enjoyed this police story. Madison is a believable and strong character and her relationship with the boss and her partner Terry is punchy! The writing style is clear, succinct and compelling and I look forward to reading more Madison Knight stories.
