Big improvement on his debut,
By
This review is from: Time For Truth (Audio CD)
Though not really a fan of his first release, I felt it had enough potential to warrant checking out the follow up.Time For Truth maintains what I like about Simon which is his concepts and lyrics. The man is a thinker and that aspect is what makes him a worthwhile artist. This disc, production wise, is also far more organic. Real drums, much less antiseptic programming, some great guitar work. Where it leaves me wanting is the visceral impact of the lyrics far surpass the SOUND of the recordings. Sonically, no chances are taken. Simon plays some wonderful drums, but they are mixed infuriatingly low. His vocals lack bite and confidence (which is a shame, because he can sing). The whole thing feels too cautious. There is a sheen to it that undermines its lyrical punch and relevance. The production sterility that marred his first is still very much present. Having said that, the disc is definitely worth the modest price and Simon remains an artist to watch. Hopefully he won't take four or five years to follow up this disc.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!,

Simon obtain a work that won't defraud his musical and family antecedents. With an inherited interpretation style, obvious influences of the progressive electronic music and some opportun elements similar to the best indie rock sound The central track can become a classic!

It's nothing like the first release!,
By P. Wagner - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Time For Truth (Audio CD)
I was utterly disappointed to find out that this new release didn't sound like the first one. The dreamy atmospehere which was created by his first release fades away in this release. It also uses quite a bit of cussing, which I am not a fan of. It's just not the same, wasn't it for his great voice. Where did the slight trance influence go? There are maybe one or two good songs on this cd. Don't expect too much!
