Product Description

Mason Dupre has resigned himself to never being loved. Silver Whitney has fallen under a spell – the spell of graceful, ante-bellum Rosewood Plantation. But it is the spell cast long ago over Mason Dupre that prevents Silver from writing the book she has traveled hundreds of miles to complete. Mardi Gras, the interference of a ghost, and the heavy New Orleans air swirl around Silver and Mason as they struggle to solve and understand the mystery that keeps them both bound to the plantation and a vengeful curse.

About the Author

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, Oct 27 2002
This review is from: Time Suspended (Paperback)
Silver Whitney has come to Rosewood Plantation to take pictures and put together a book that she feels will be a feather in her hat. With a tree branch crushing her new jeep, a painful injury to her back and a rather angry greeting from Mason Dupre, the new owner of the ante-bellum mansion, as the first things she deals with, Silver seems to be waging a massively uphill battle. The situation is out of her hands, however; she doesn't realize these events aren't happenstance, but a curse laid on the Dupre family. Of course, it doesn't help that Mason is a rather disagreeable man who tends to treat Silver poorly, but there is a bit more than mere personality involved. At his birth, he was cursed -- his father would never live to see his son grown to a man, and Mason himself would never find love or happiness until he is truly loved by a woman.

With her back injured where walking is barely an option, and with no money left to fix her jeep, Silver is forced to remain in Rosewood for a bit. She takes this opportunity to try to convince him to honor the contract she had with his uncle, so the book on the history of the plantation can indeed be made. As she and Mason continually clash, she finds an unlikely ally in his ancient aunt, as well as the family housekeeper who seem to be pushing the two together for more than simply writing a book. No one seems to see that should you add in a strong attraction between the pair to the fireworks they cause when together, making the two a couple may simply make a situation that could be worse than the current family curse.

As I read further, I could not see why Silver would want to stay in the mansion, much less wish to become part of Mason's life. He continually was rude to her, and a few times he was close to being abusive. The setting and the underlying gothic feel of the story were wonderfully chilling, and I really wanted to like Mason, but it was nearly impossible. Instead I enjoyed the minor characters that were put together with amazing depth and care, and hoped that by the last chapter, Silver and Mason would shed some of their anger and allow the story to take them away. I found, by the end, that if you want a taste of New Orleans with an intense gothic feel and can overlook rather "spiky" main characters, TIME SUSPENDED is a good, if occasionally uncomfortable read.
