There are actually far better contenders for the position that Vanilla Ice now occupies: That of the least-regarded (critically, anyway) superstar of the pre-Alternative '90s. Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer are now collected on the dual Back to Back Hits compilation--which is bargain-priced and supersedes To the Extreme. It's by far the better value. "Ice Ice Baby" is not a bad song--it's just a Queen song without enough Queen. But then, take a sweep at today's hip-hop arena and tell me the man (Van Winkle will be the name on his death certificate) wasn't prescient. Vanilla Ice was nothing more than a two-hit wonder.

In 1990, Vanilla Ice landed two top ten singles on Billboard's Hot 100 with the #1 single, Ice Ice Baby- which was a complete surprise. It sampled Queen's classic, Under Pressure. He covered Wild Cherry's Play that funky music for his second top five single. Vanilla Ice scored on the charts with these two songs- but it wasn't exactly original material.
For the most part, Vanilla Ice was over-rated and no one can argue with his success and this was #1 album.
Just because this album topped the Billboard 200 albums and produced a #1 single and another top five single, doesn't make this album a masterpiece.
Two songs doesn't make this album a classic.
Vanilla Ice, for the most part, is a two-hit wonder and enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame.

I thought Queen had something here. I think Queen and David Bowie had Under Pressure. Then you here "V.I.P.!!!" It's like shut the **** up! Vanilla Ice was a horrible rapper. The only good white rapper is Eminem. Vanilla Ice, I'm glad you aren't in the music industry anymore! Actually, you should be glad because you would be getting your ass kicked out on the streets. Oh yeah, YOUR STUPID SONG ICE ICE BABY IS THE #6 WORST SONG EVER ACCORDING TO VH1!!!

I have the cassette from somtime around '93-'94, and it used to be my favorite thing to listen to. Now I listen to everything atleast once to be open minded, but Eminem is the WORST rapper of all time. Whether or not Vanilla Ice pirated his bass from Queen doesn't matter. All that matters is what the music sounds like to the listener. If you like the sound, great, if you don't, well, who really cares either way? Now for somthing more closely related: Good album, 4 stars.
