Product Description

In Toddlers Gone Wild!, Rebecca Eckler, bestselling author of Knocked Up and Wiped!, tackles the madness that comes with raising a boddler (half-toddler, half-baby). As any parent of a boddler knows, these are strange days indeed. Gone is the time when your child would listen when you said, “no,” and wear whatever adorable little outfit you chose. Nope. These days, the little darlings are likely to meet attempts at discipline with a steely, “I hate you,” and wardrobe choice can lead to a complete mental breakdown (on both sides).

In short, sweet, and uproariously funny bursts, Eckler turns the spotlight on some hitherto neglected parenthood topics:

  • Anti-Children People: Why can’t her baby come into the store? She’s only two! She can’t very well be tied to a leash and left outside!
  • Sleeping Rearrangements: How did this happen? The boddler’s in the bed with the 500 thread-count sheets, The Fianc?’s in the bed with the princess sheets, and Eckler’s on the hallway floor, sleeping on a pile of towels.
  • The Toilet Hug: Yay! She’s toilet trained. But wait! The only thing worse than changing a loaded diaper is a three-year-old who makes you hug her while she’s on the throne.
  • Toddler Rats: Can’t blame that spilled coffee on the kid anymore. She can talk now, and she will rat you out.
  • Please Don’t Invite Me!: Admit it. You, too, have run screaming at the sight of another birthday party invitation (and tried to hide it from little eyes).

There are high notes (falling in love with The Fianc? all over again), low notes (why does The Boddler always fall asleep at the wrong moments), and painful notes (one more headbutt and that nose job will be a reality). Through it all, Eckler does what Eckler does best: She gives voice to what every boddler parent is thinking, but afraid to say. And you thought raising a teen would be hard...

1.0 out of 5 stars Painful, July 30 2008
By Avid reader - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Toddlers Gone Wild: Rants From a Mommy Brain (Paperback)
I borrowed "Wiped" and Toddlers gone wild from the library (phew, Thank God). It was unbelievably painful to finish "Wiped" and now after reading a few essays in this book, I think I am quite done wasting time. The author's writing style could have been quite witty/funny but her voice is dangerously whiny and "oh, poor me" which is so not self-deprecating as she claims. I think I reached my limits of giving the writer benefit of doubt with 500-count Dora sheets, LOL...again could have been witty if it was more "self-deprecating" and less whiny...a really great voice who's witty/funny and self-deprecating is Elizabeth Gilbert (by the way, there is no comparison between this author and EG)....Anyway these are going back to the library today...

4.0 out of 5 stars Rebecca Eckler is laughing with you (not at you), Dec 13 2010

I loved Rebecca Eckler's "Wiped: Life with a Pint Sized Dictator" and was extremely excited to receive "Toddlers Gone Wild". Some of the essays feel shorter and more clipped than in "Wiped" but I always find myself commiserating and laughing. I read it while my kid is on the "potty", which can take anywhere from two seconds to two hours. Rebecca is always fresh and honest, and every parent can identify with her tales. Taking a minute to read her book always feels like taking a minute to chat with your closest mom-friend about the trials and tribulations of raising a walking talking trouble maker; reading makes me feel like it is absolutely an irreputable fact that if Rebecca and I were to ever meet, we would become best friends.
