Product Description

From the first name in heart pounding thriller fiction.

Ellis Jackson woke up hugging a twelve-bore shotgun. In the next room, his mistress and his best friend lay naked on the bed, their heads blown to pulp. Back in England at last, Ellis Jackson had finally cracked.

Active combat, a Viet Cong prison camp and the callous treachery of his lover and interrogator, Madam Ny, had taken their toll. Ellis Jackson was out of his mind. Or was he?

Maybe it would all have been easier to take if he really had been mad

Excellent Typical Story of the team exploits in the U.K. Dylan is as always an interesting character to read of, so are his sidekicks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Feb. 20 2010
By Marvin C. - Published on Amazon.com

This is an early Jack Higgins book (1971). I have enjoyed many of his early books but this one was quite disappointing. The story was ridiculously hard to believe and at times the story read like a "B" movie action script. Nevertheless the story moved at a quick rate and had plenty of action.

Typical Higgins. ... Lots of action, a surprise or two, and somewhat complicated.
I will read more Higgins by the by.

Higgins' carries on with one of his several themes, and yet each is unique in its own way. And when you think you've "got it", .....surprise. And once again, he has you captured within his tale.
2.0 out of 5 stars Not Higgins' best Jan. 13 2014

A lot of violence in this book, and that's about it. The Higgins' books that I've read have a dark shadow throughout, and so does this. But for some of them, A Prayer for the Dying, and Brought in Dead, there's something else that made it worth reading. I didn't find that in this one. Just smashed faces, broken bones, killing, maiming, dying. And the dark, nihilistic shadow over everything-- everything pointless, everyone lets you down, etc etc .

At the end I couldn't figure out why I read all that, what I gained from it-- not even the pleasure you would get from a well-crafted formulaic thriller.
