Book Description

The Navy SEALs have been fighting terrorists around the world for more than a decade. And for all that time, the Bandito Platoon from SEAL Team Seven has been on continuous combat rotation. Now they have drawn a shipboard assignment off Central America — an easy day. But for a Navy SEAL, the only easy day was yesterday. Act of Valor goes deep into the secret world of today’s most elite and highly trained group of warriors. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the United States, a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitments to country, Team, and their families back home. But each time they accomplish their mission, a new piece of intelligence reveals another shocking twist to the plot, which stretches from Chechnya to the Philippines and from Ukraine to Somalia. The widening operation sends the SEALs across the globe as they track a terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border — where they engage in an epic firefight with potentially unimaginable consequences for America… In a powerful story of global anti-terrorism — inspired by real-life missions — Act of Valor combines stunning combat scenes, up-to-the-minute battlefield technology, and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate in action adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edge-of-your-seat and factual, Jan 23 2012
By Carol Lynn Featherstone - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor (Mass Market Paperback)
I picked this book up and finished it within 2 days. Clancy really benefits this time from George Galdorisi and Dick Crouch's service in the military, and it shows. Crouch was a top SEAL himself, and Galdorisi (an accomplished author and great writer in his own right) clearly spent a ton of time with SEALs during his storied military career. The little details that Crouch and Galdorisi provide make this story very believable and lend the storyline a lot of credence. The subtle facts here make this Clancy's best.

A lot of military novels have a James Bond-esque air of unbelievability about them, which makes for nice fluff reading on a plane but not for real-life subject matter and stories. Not so this one-- the reader can see how this storyline could unfold at any time. In fact, it probably already has, many times. The biggest beef that I have with Act of Valor is that we will never know just how close this 'novel' is to the truth!

Pick this up -- for your family, your friends, male or female, young or old, blue-stater or red-stater, it doesn't matter. Everyone who reads it will be as enthralled as I was. Spend some time thinking about what our military brethren go through (even in peacetime), and buy one of them a beer next time you see them in uniform. This book is awesome, and I don't read a whole lot of books like this one. I look forward to seeing many more collaborative novels between these three fine authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars See the Movie; then Read the Book, Feb 27 2012

I'd been reading about Act of Valor for months.
Since I'm a former Special Ops Plans Officer, I was very interested.

I learned about the book in an article by Dick Couch published in Naval History Magazine, February 2012 (Volume 26, Number 1).

Captain Couch, USN(Retired), was the highest ranking reserve SEAL at the time of his retirement. He is one of the preeminent SOF historians.

Since I've read all of Dick Couch's book, I had to get this one. He adds background and detail to the movie.

BTW - I saw the movie on Sunday and enjoyed it greatly. Most authentic since Blackhawk Down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable book about Those who watch our back., Jan 19 2012
By Ex Op - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor (Mass Market Paperback)
I purchased this book 3 days ago and have just finished reading it - for the SECOND time! Clancy's books are usually fantastic but this one, coming on the heals of the Navy Seals mission to eliminate OBL, takes his novels to another level. This book sounds and reads so real about what is going on right now with America's southern border and extending into Central and South America. I understand that the movie is to be released in February and starring real USN SpecOps Personnel - I hope it is half as good as the book as I am sure it will be. As for Clancy and his knack of getting 'things' right - look to the South, America - this is where the war is going to come from.
