Every Great Band Should Have a Documentary THIS GOOD!,
By
This review is from: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin' Down A Dream (DVD)
Caught a bit of this on TV one night and couldn't stop watching. I wouldn't even call myself a big fan, although I own some CD's. This documentary is a good rock story well told, by the real people and real video footage of the moments and all held together with Petty's music. All the songs demoed before the Heartbreakers first albums are also catchy... the guy writes great, straight ahead songs that sound so simple but are often more deep and sophisticated than they sound... that's the deceptive beauty of capturing the essence and the raw energy as well as Petty and his great band have done consistently for so long (30 years... WOW)!!! A great rock band. The show is about 4 hours but you don't want it to end. You don't have to be a fan to like this show. It made me want to update my Petty CD collection!

Great early Tom Petty documentary,
This review is from: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin' Down A Dream (DVD)
This movie-quality documentary will have broad appeal to BIG fans as well as those who really don't know much TP other than they've heard on commercial radio. From the band's gritty beginnings as high school buddies to one of the most influencial bands to ever emerge from the U.S., Running Down a Dream not only features Tom Petty's creative genius in writing great hooks, but also features the rest of the Heartbreaker's individual talents as well. Considering the band now tours with only one member short of the original line-up, this film explains that it hasn't been an easy road for the 30 plus years of convictions. As good a music doc as you will see and as good a story as there is to be told about what it means to dedicate your life to something you love doing.

This is one of the best DVD's I own. Simple, if you enjoy a documentary with some great music mixed and you enjoy Tom Petty, this DVD will leave you wanting to order the man & his bands entire album/cd collection Outstanding.
