5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Death Metal Feb 23 2013
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Tomb of the Mutilated is the best Cannibal Corpse CD for vocals and lyrics. The lyrics are extremely funny and the music is awesome. This is a must own death metal classic. Butchered At Birth, Tomb of the Mutilated and The Bleeding are the best death metal albums ever made.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why are these guys popular? Oct 22 2012
Format:Audio CD
I love metal and have really started to appreciate all types of metal but cannibal corpse....i dont know. its really awful. i mean the druming is very pot and pan sounding, the bass is the best part of this band, the guitar is nothing out of the ordinary, and the vocals....the vocals. oh my god. grunting as deep as you can go is considered metal to these guys. the lyrics and album art make me throw up....and not in a good way. if you want death metal that is heavy raw and fast but still GOOD at the same time, listen to early death, massacre and some kreator.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tomb of the Mutilated '92 CC record No.2 Jun 27 2004
By Cory G.
Format:Audio CD
I've decided to review every single Cannibal Corpse cd in order and this was next on the list. I've reviewed Eaten Back to Life, Hammer Smashed Face (because it's not an album) and The Wretched Spawn (because it's new). As you all know, Death Metal technicality levels are very high, even back when this cd was released. In fact, I think Death Metal has to be the most talented genre ever. You just can't get away with creating something incredibly simple (look at Six Feet Under!) or boring. Monotony is a problem within Death Metal and many of CC's songs. Cannibal Corpse were technical right from the beginning, just not as much as other bands, it's just that they were noticed more because of the gore and outrage they inspired and because of this, they have come under closer scrutiny from Death Metal fans and discouraged many potential Death Metal fans away from the genre altogether because they are hard to get used to. If this is your first Death Metal cd, don't get it, I stress! If you want to get Cannibal Corpse cds, do it in order.

This cd, like all Cannibal Corpse cds, is more technical than the last. Unfortunately it's not as brutal as Eaten Back to Life either. Chris Barnes sounds the worst I've ever heard him on this record as well. He just sounds so bad...his growls (grunts) are just rediculously low and so unintelligible it's beyond the joke. Think of an extremely low bass guitar that's out of tune and you may have some idea what he sounds (or doesn't sound) like. I would have given this 4 stars if not for the disgraceful vocals. The other problem I have with this record is that it's basically Eaten Back to Life only more technical.

It's not quite monotonous yet, things stand out in songs that make you remember them, such as a faster passage or a riff with significant groove. Classics on here include Hammer Smashed Face among others, a very well known song in Death Metal. I didn't like only 1 or 2 of the songs and parts of some of the others, but, as I said, Chris Barnes sounds real bad and totally detracts from the experience and the only difference between this and the last record is that the technicality increased a bit.
The best songs would be Hammer Smashed Face, Split Wide Open, Post Mortal Ejaculation and Entr.....(censored, lol)track seven!

I suppose I'm being a little tough on it, but I think it deserves 3 stars. By no means stay away from it, but if you're a new Corpse fan, start with Eaten Back to Life and get the rest in order. If you're not keen on getting all of the albums, I suggest Eaten Back to Life, The Bleeding, Bloodthirst and The Wretched Spawn as my picks.
