Product Description

Review

"A thorough, clinically oriented exposition of tongue diagnosis." -- American Journal of Acupuncture

"Will undoubtedly be the standard textbook on tongue diagnosis for many years to come." -- The Journal of Chinese Medicine

Book Description

Examination of the tongue, like the pulse, is one of the principal diagnostic methods in traditional Chinese medicine. This book--newly revised in 1995--systematically describes each of the primary characteristics of the tongue (body color, shape and coating) and their significance in the clinic. It traces the historical development of tongue diagnosis and its relationship to externally- contracted disorders and the eight principals.

Featured in this revised edition are 59 color plates and accompanying case histories from the author's own practice. Other aspects of tongue diagnosis newly described in this edition include the integration of tongue and pulse diagnosis; the use of the tongue in diagnosing emotional problems; tongue diagnosis and herbal treatment; the tongue in prognosis; and special considerations regarding tongue diagnosis in children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch, Aug 22 2001

This is one of the most useful, attractive, and interesting books on TCM that I have in my library. The writing is good and well organized, the illustrations are excellent and the photographs are worth ... well ... a thousand words.

IMHO, this is one of the most important books a student of TCM can have. I think it should be the 2nd book a TCM student buys. The first would be a good fundamentals book (such as Fundamentals of Chinese Medicine by Wiseman and Ellis).

Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars For Students Studying for the Boards..., Jan 24 2003

Another Giovanni book. He's like the Chinese Medicine Mafia - he's italian, he's everywhere, and he's never wrong. Yeah, right.

I didn't read the whole thing, but I did look through the case studies and look at their tongues. Particularly of note is his "rootless" tongue coat, also known as "patchy," which he says indicates Stomach yin xu. I hadn't seen this from any other author, so it was news to me... and key info to have in your brain for the test.

Not bad for OM students in general... no other book out there like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars For serious tongue diagnosis, Aug 2 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Tongue Diagnosis in Chinese Medicine (Hardcover)
This is the best text on tongue diagnosis I know of. It is clear and to the point and leads you through the many difficulties in tongue Diagnosis. The study of this book will help and serious student of TCM with his/her diagnostics. This is a must have, in my opinion, for all TCM students.
