Book Description

A charming and briliant dentist,
tied to two murders nearly two decades apart....
A twisting case in which past and present colide....

Go inside one of the most compelling double homicide investigations of our time with Ann Rule, who was given exclusive access inside the case of Bart Corbin, the "handsome twin" responsible for murder times two.

Bart Corbin appeared to share an idyllic life with his pretty wife, Jennifer: a home in an upscale Atlanta suburb, two adorable young sons. But there were secrets below the surface -- including an affair of Bart's that drove Jenn to look for love on the Internet -- that would prove deadly on the December morning Jenn was found with a single gunshot wound to her head. Police suspected suicide, but her disbelieving family knew Jenn had been excited to move on from Bart with someone she had met online. As disturbing clues emerged, a relentless county investigator dredged up a shattering revelation: fourteen years earlier, Bart Corbin's former girlfriend, lovely dental student Dolly Hearn, also died -- a gunshot wound to her head that was ruled a suicide. It was a chilling link in the chain that would ensnare the remorseless killer behind both tragic deaths: Bart Corbin.

And if you think you know everything about this outright shocking case, discover the truth behind the headlines -- and one incredible irony on which the entire case turned -- in

4.0 out of 5 stars The Wide Scale Impact of Murder, Sep 23 2007

This review is from: Too Late to Say Goodbye: A True Story of Murder and Betrayal (Hardcover)
There is one thing you can depend on with Ann Rule is that she tells a riveting story. Mind you, the genre of true-crime sort of lends itself to that effect. This latest tale of murder in suburban America is another classic example of Rule doing her standard post-mortem analysis of why people resort to murder as their only option for resolving personal conflicts. The Brad Corbin story is one of hope, fear, greed, envy, and courage all wrapped up in a thriller of a story. The reader gets to follow the Georgia D.A.I. around as they follow up leads in their search for the killer of Jen Corbin, the wife of a dentist trying to build the good life in Augusta. While we know who the murderer is from the outset, Rule takes us through a very involved and gripping plot of how this whole crime passionnel impacted the lives of different people - relatives, friends, and strangers. Along the way, Rule, in her own capable way, serves up a few surprises. While there are no winners and losers in her stories, one definitely comes away knowing that justice was done, especially to the perpetrator. It is this dedication and sensitivity to relevant and colorful detail that makes Rule's books worth a read or two.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHEN PAST AND PRESENT COLLIDE..., May 16 2008

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
In this true crime story of murder and betrayal, the author takes the reader into an exploration of two murders, seamlessly and empathically weaving the stories of the tragic deaths of two young women. Though the deaths were fourteen years apart and in different jurisdictions, the two victims would have one thing in common. They had each fallen in love with the same man, Bart Corbin.

The first woman to die was Dolly Hearn, a beautiful, vivacious, dental student, who met Bart Corbin in dental school, where he, too, was a student. They eventually became a couple but the relationship was quite rocky. Then Dolly met an untimely death by virtue of a gunshot wound to the head, which the police classified as a suicide, despite her parents' belief that she had been murdered.

The second woman to die was Jennifer Corbin, Bart's wife. Bart Corbin, now a dentist, though not particularly successful in his practice of dentistry, was still able to live the American dream. He had a lovely wife, two wonderful children, and a nice home in a great neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia. There were cracks in that facade, however, and his wife finally decided that she was going to leave Bart, as he was not the man that she had thought he was. Then she, too, met her maker through a gunshot wound to the head. This time, however, the police did not rush to judgment to classify this death as a suicide.

A careful and thorough investigation, fueled by an unexpected lead, led to the police to connect the dots between the deaths of these two young women, resulting in the re-opening of the investigation into Dolly Hearn's death. What the police were to discover and what lead to the arrest of Bart Corbin in connection with these two tragic deaths makes for riveting true crime drama.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read (listen, actually), Jan 20 2011

Bought this for my Wife. She's an Ann Rule fan but hasn't read anything until she was virutally blinded following brain surgery. I got this for a Christmas gift hoping it might turn her on to audio books. It didn't disappoint. She's listened to the book twice now! She's seen various true-crime shows and the movie version, but said the book contained much more detail than any of them.
