Product Description

About the Author

The Toolbox was a close collaboration between Anne Rockwell and her late husband, Harlow Rockwell. Anne conceived of the book idea and wrote the text, and Harlow created the illustrations. He used handmade laid book paper instead of traditional watercolor paper, because he felt that this gave the color more transparency and luminosity.

Anne said, “I saw The Toolbox as lovingly rendered still lifes of common tools found in a toolbox, based upon my husband’s powerful but sensitive and simple way of rendering everyday objects. The words were inspired by our son, a toddler at the time, and his awe of his father’s tools.”

Anne lives in Greenwich, Connecticut, and she is the critically acclaimed author of innumerable books for the very young.

Perfect for My Little Handyman May 10 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
My four-year-old, a tool fanatic, loved this book. Simple illustrations and words label several tools from a boy's father's toolbox and clearly describe their basic uses. My son "reads" it over and over again.

Love this book! April 16 2012

My 2 year old simply adores this book! He is obsessed with all things related to building and this book covers it! It's a fairly basic board book, but has pictures of all of the tools that he likes, so he's able to look at the pictures and memorize what each thing is. Very cute for a tool-obsessed toddler!

Clearly a classic! May 11 2012
By S. Swanson - Published on Amazon.com

We gave this book and the Green Toys Tool Set to my daughter and she LOVED it. It is obviously dated (who has a plane or a wooden folding tape measure any more?) but she wants to read it over and over and she names the tools. We got her a cheap tape measure and small clamp to put in the box so she has more of the tools, but she is happy to just read the book over and over.

Fun and entertaining. July 20 2012

Fun and entertaining for a short while for my 2 year old grandson.
If he can get to his grand dads real tools, now that's entertainment.
The box is helpful for storage. In fact, I am using for a craft box now.
