5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and heart-warming, Jun 1 2010

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Tooth Fairy (DVD)
Tooth Fairy stars Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as Derek Thompson, a once promising but now over-the-hill hockey player finishing out his career in the minor leagues. Cynical and embittered about his lost dreams of playing in the big leagues, Thompson's sole remaining claim to fame is his penchant for checking players on opposing teams so hard that he knocks out one of their teeth every time he lands a check (hence his nickname of The Tooth Fairy). But Thompson's life takes a very unexpected turn the night his girlfriend Carly's young daughter Tess loses a tooth and he tells her that the Tooth Fairy (the one children believe in) doesn't exist. Furious with him, Carly (ably played by Ashley Judd) makes him leave, whereupon he returns to his condominium and goes to bed. His cynicism hasn't gone unnoticed, however, and he wakes to find a summons under his pillow from none other than the Head Tooth Fairy herself, Lily (so delectably played by the great Julie Andrews). Once magically transported to Fairyland, Derek finds out from Lily that as his punishment for attempting to destroy Tess's belief in the Tooth Fairy, he has been sentenced to a week as a real Tooth Fairy himself - wings and all. Much hilarity ensues as viewers get to see Thompson's attempts to comply with his punishment, helped along by wacky fairy-gadgets-and-gizmos guy Jerry (Billy Crystal) and Lily's aide Tracy (Stephen Merchant). Assorted sub-plots involving a new young up-and-coming player on Derek's hockey team, Carly's son Randy's desire to play electric guitar in his school's talent show, and Tracy's unrealized dream to become a Tooth Fairy himself all give Thompson further chances at redemption. But can he overcome his own cynicism, bitterness, and regrets before it's too late?

Highly recommended as a great movie for families with kids ages 8 and up.

4.0 out of 5 stars great family movie and brilliant actors, Feb 2 2011
This review is from: Tooth Fairy (DVD)
This movie has great moral lessons and is very entertaining. There are great actors in this movie. It is worth watching and buying. The only thing that bothered me about the movie was some of the fairy wings and parts of fairy land. I think it would have been better if these things were designed to look more natural but the movie itself was great.
