A must for dog owners or those thinking of buying a puppy., April 1 2004
By Martha J Earp - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Top Dog (Perfect Paperback)
Top Dog has it all - this training guide is practical, simple and effective. The training methods work equally well for the family pet or a hunting dog. Having trained dogs for many years, I have several books in my collection, Top Dog is by far the most complete guide for amateur trainers. The book takes you and your dog on a journey from the basics of obedience to advanced drills, in minutes a day. If you only have one book, Top Dog is the one to buy.

Very good for starting a puppy, Dec 12 2007

This book will give you all the basic skills you need for obedience, and starting you gun dog. It does have a lot of info about later training as well. Ignore the review about not being able to train a dog at 1 year on page 26. He is taking it out of context. The actual quote from the book is as follows: "I can't guarantee that good preschool work will make your dog a top dog, but I can guarantee the puppy will be untrainable if you bring it home, put it in the kennel, give it no name, pay no attention to it, and a year or so later try to train it".
This is a great book for anyone that has decided to train their own gun dog!
