Top Gear - BBC/Warner Announces DVDs for The Complete Season 13

An extras-filled 3-disc set is racing your way in late September
Posted by David Lambert
7/09/2010

This series sees Richard go to Abu Dhabi to test the new Lambo Murcielago LP640-4 SV; the boys buy three £1,500 rear-drive sports cars and somehow find themselves entered in a terrifying French ice race. Elsewhere, Jeremy and James attempt to understand what makes a great Volkswagen advert -and then try to film some of their own. Rather predictably, it doesn't go well. And in a television-first, the mysterious Stig takes off his helmet to reveal just who he really is...

Celebrities taking a turn in the 'Stars in the Reasonably Priced Car' include Olympic Gold Medal winning Usain Bolt, Sienna Miller (Alfie, Layer Cake) who has just passed her driving test; and Jay Leno - in Jeremy's own words -'the biggest petrolhead in the world'.

The BBC and distributor Warner Home Video have announced a September 28th release of Top Gear - The Complete Season 13 on DVD in North America. This 3-disc set runs 406 minutes. Besides the 7 featured episodes (which are subtitled), you'll also get the following extras:

* Stig POV
* Spitfire Magic
* Ken Block: Slow Motion
* Extended Brian Johnson Interview
* Extended Jenson Button Interview
* Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4-SV 200 mph Run in Abu Dhabi
* Train Race Sequence with JC

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Gearhead pleaser Aug. 4 2010

If you like cars, and have any sense of humor, this show is a must. I only wish more were available. The BBC is missing the boat by not offering more of this series to American audiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Gear: funnier than any other "car" show EVER! Nov. 15 2010

We discovered the BBC show Top Gear during a recent cruise to Europe on our cabin TV. There was no better way to pass the transatlantic seasick time than watching the fabulous banter of these 3 witty hosts. I was reminded of the simplistic joy of childhood pranks and the sheer excitement of a fast car. I loved their clips of a "celebrity in a well-priced car" stints and their realistic reviews of cars I can only dream of owning and driving some day. My husband, 12 year old daughter and I all quote the show regularly and can't wait to order other seasons on dvd, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars UK Season 13 Episode 6 - Good Episode Dec 12 2011
By Daniel G. Lebryk - Published on Amazon.com
The show opens with Jeremy driving a BMW Z4. There are some odd things with dinosaurs on the track. He drives a Nissan 370Z - oh I mean he just slides it all over the track.

The big challenge is to purchase classic cars (pre-1982) for 3,000 pounds at a classic car auction. It's a fun insight into bulk car auctions. Richard buys the first car out, an old Taxi. Jeremy buys a convertible Midget (he keeps claiming it's an Austin Healy), and gets auction fever. James, captain slow, buys the very last car of the auction, a disgusting Citroen Ami 8 (I've ridden in one of these and they were disgusting back in the 70's). This half of the segment finishes up with them preparing the cars for a timed rally.

Star in a reasonably priced car is AC/DC Brian Johnson. This is one fun interview. He's a funny guy. The lap is really worth watching.

The remainder of the challenge is the last half of the show. The guys are paired up with co-drivers. The pairings are hilarious. The funny part, James is completely oblivious to his co-driver; it would be very difficult to not just stare. The rally is long with some funny moments. If nothing else, the rally is worth watching just to see James' co-driver.

5.0 out of 5 stars UK Season 13 Episode 7 - Excellent End Of Season Show Dec 16 2011
By Daniel G. Lebryk - Published on Amazon.com
One of the funnier episodes. The last episode for season 13.

The show opens with Richard talking about all the boring businessman cars, bland and the same. So he chooses an Australian Vauxhall VXR-8 Bathurst supercharged car. It makes the wildest strangest noises ever. As Hammond says, this car goes to 11. He then backs it up with another Australian car, The Maloo R8, a sort of El Camino. But it is blindingly fast. The Stig drives both cars.

They break away to do the news. Lots of Ferrari news as usual.

The big segment is James and Jeremy making a commercial for Volkswagen. On a serious side, it's not too far off from the corporate world with how executives decide what will and will not see the light of day. This was a great challenge to leave out Hammond. May and Clarkson are such polar opposites, it makes for a very funny segment.

They go back to the car board - something that is gratefully removed in later seasons. In the end, this should just be called the Jeremy board; he puts the cars where ever he wants. There is an excellent joke with Hammond about his height. Be sure to watch through to the end of this segment.

The star in a reasonably priced car, this week is Jay Leno. Now I kind of dislike Jay Leno, but he is excellent on this show. The interview is outstanding. Jay has 150 cars, and Jeremy is mostly speechless.

The closing segment is of Jeremy driving an Aston Martin Vantage with a V12 all over beautiful hilly countryside. There's ethereal music that makes me think of having a massage. Probably one of the most beautiful segments they have ever aired.

Oddly, there's no awards part of the show this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars UK Season 13 Episode 5 - Very Funny Dec 12 2011
By Daniel G. Lebryk - Published on Amazon.com
The episode opens with the big challenge event - purchase three rear wheel drive cars for 1,500 pounds, take them across the ferry to Calais. Jeremy buys a Porsche 944 S4, the last of the S series; Hammond buys a turbo charged Nissan 300XZ; and Captain slow bought a Capri from the 80's. They have to drive 500 miles in France to a race track. Some funny things happen along the way as is expected. Jeremy fixes a tail light, so he thinks he's invincible and can fix anything. They arrive at the race track and have to beat The Stig in a front wheel drive Twingo. The brake test they have to do is hilarious. They then have to drive off to the Alps.

A break to do the news. There are some funny cars. Jeremy drives a new Jaguar XF-R, the racing version of the Jag XF. The car is hot. Jeremy races a BMW M5. Then The Stig drives the Jag.

Jeremy comes up with a great idea to get rid of carbon dioxide emissions. This is a split your gut funny segment.

The star in a reasonable car is the incredibly gorgeous, Sienna Miller (Layer Cake and GI Joe). The interview is excellent; she gives Jeremy a very hard time.

The main event continues, and it is one of the funniest challenges they have ever done. They drive to the Alps at the Val Thorens ice racing track. It is so worth watching. Pay attention to the names they paint on the side of the cars - when they open the doors some funny words show up.

This is one of the funnier episodes.
