Easily allows you to identify the most suitable hikes and their locations. A few of the mileage locations were slightly off on the West Maui hikes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-researched, well-written... and great photos! Aug 3 2011
By Kevin Collins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I read this one after attending a talk by the author and enjoyed both greatly.

With Maui's amazing diversity of activities (Mai Tais anyone!?), hiking can get lost in the shuffle but is an amazing way to see the island. I have some Maui hiking experience - mostly around Haleakala and West Maui - and the book covers both of these areas very well in addition to *many* other places... like the Iao Valley? I'll be checking it out in September!

With NO mountain lions, rattlesnakes or poison oak (I'm in California)... eat, hike, see Maui :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Maui Wow-ee! Aug 3 2011
By Arlo Hemphill - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Before picking up this book, I thought of Maui primarily as a great spot to surf, dive and eat baked pork. Never did it cross my mind that Maui was a destination as diverse as California for serious hiking! From casual day hikes to remote backcountry adventures, Sara Benson makes the best-kept secrets of Maui's hidden interior accessible to all. Thanks for the Aloha spirt, the great read and the inspiration to slap on my hiking boots and head for sunnier shores! This will be the one sure book I pack when hiking Maui!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best hiking guide for Maui from an expert Aug 3 2011
By Evan Baxter - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have been to Maui several times. I know of a few off the beaten path trails. I saw the author give a presentation at my local REI. Not only did she know about all of my "secret spots", but she had dozens of even better ones. She has obviously done her homework. I bought a copy and read through it, as I am planning another trip to Maui in the near future. It spelled out all the pertinent info out extremely well, organized in an easy to find fashion. It was a very interesting read (with great photos as well). Since this is the first trip with kiddos, I wanted to make sure that I did not march their little legs off.

What's funny is I just looked on my my shelf of travel books for my trusty Lonely Planet Maui book to confirm, I didn't even realize previously that it is the same author...this woman knows Maui!
