Book Description

Feb 28 2012 Trylle Novels (Book 2)

Amanda Hocking is an indie publishing sensation whose self-published novels have sold millions of copies all over the world.  Step into the world of the Trylle, and prepare to be enchanted….

When Wendy Everly first discovers the truth about herself—that she’s a changeling switched at birth—she knows her life will never be the same. Now she’s about to learn that there’s more to the story…

She shares a closer connection to her Vittra rivals than she ever imagined—and they’ll stop at nothing to lure her to their side. With the threat of war looming, her only hope of saving the Trylle is to master her magical powers—and marry an equally powerful royal. But that means walking away from Finn, her handsome bodyguard who’s strictly off limits…and Loki, a Vittra prince with whom she shares a growing attraction.

Torn between her heart and her people, between love and duty, Wendy must decide her fate. If she makes the wrong choice, she could lose everything, and everybody, she’s ever wanted…in both worlds.

As a special gift to readers, this book contains a new, never-before-published bonus story, “One Day, Three Ways,” set in the magical world of the Trylle.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing and heartbreaking sequel! Mar 22 2012
By Mimi Valentine TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Rating: 4.5 beautiful stars!

You know you have an amazing sequel when you love it more than the first book -- and that's exactly the case with Torn! I wasn't expecting to be as blown away as I was but I ended up loving it from the beautiful cover to the heartbreaking end.

From the very first page, I already knew I was going to lose sleep reading this book! It still gives enough information to remind you of what happened in Switched, but the recap isn't boring or overwhelming. We also get to learn more about the Trylle lore, with its beautiful and magical trolls that are separated into two quarreling kingdoms (both of which have automatically made it onto my list of Fictional Places I Want To Live In).

In the first book, Wendy was only discovering her Trylle heritage and she was admittedly a little childish with her actions. But in Torn, you watch her grow and develop and have to go through so many sacrifices to protect her kingdom that you can't help but love her! My heart was on an inconsistent rhythm, but it was always in sync with hers.

Wendy's birth mother, Elora, also surprised me with how much I grew to like her. And even though you watch Wendy's forbidden romance with Finn dwindle before your eyes, which is as painful and heartbreaking to us as it is to her, we get to meet Loki (who completely stole me heart)! How can you not fall for a guy who's fun and sardonic yet still adorably sweet??

Beautifully written and crafted, Torn is a book that I think everyone should have on their shelf! The lore is original and enchanting, the romance is sweet and heartbreaking, and Wendy's sacrifices will tear you apart. I can't wait to get my hands on the final installment! :)

BUY or BORROW?: Definitely a book worth buying! If not for the gorgeous cover, then buy it for the coolest trolls you will ever read about in your life! ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed Torn more than the first book Feb 28 2012
By Fantasys Ink TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
I enjoyed Torn more than the first book. Torn picks up right after where Switched ended. Amanda Hocking managed to pull quite a few surprises that I never saw coming, that's for sure. The Vittra tribe was also introduced - a tribe of trolls that were quite different than the Trylles. A few new characters appeared and of course we saw some of our old characters return. I loved seeing more of Tove and Willa!

I also loved seeing the interactions between Finn and Wendy play out. Strangely Torn didn't have as much romance as it did in the first book yet the book was still enjoyable even more so than the first - maybe because we saw much more of the supporting characters. There was a new character, Loki, who was also fighting for Wendy's affection. Although I enjoyed Loki as a character I didn't much care for the romance between them.

In the previous book I thought Wendy came off as a brat and I can safely say she really grew more mature in this book and most of her actions are justified. I was also hoping we would learn more of the Trylle abilities in the second book and we definitely learned more as Wendy starts learning how use her power. We also discover what makes her so special and why everyone is pushing her to be the ruler.

The books also contains a short story titled "One Day: Three Ways" that shifts between the point of views of Finn, Tove and Loki - although only 26 pages it was still pretty interesting to see what was going on through their heads.

I would have given it a full rating but the writing was nothing special and world was not all too creative and original. Yet the plot had me enthralled and I was quite excited to see where the story was going next. I'm excited to see how the trilogy ends in the final book Ascend. And luckily we only have to wait two months for it to be released!

5.0 out of 5 stars Torn - Trylle Trilogy # 2 Nov 16 2010
By Kristi L. Stern - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Amanda Hocking did it again! Another page turner that I simply couldn't put down. Beautifully written, engaging characters and a story-line that didn't stop.

When we leave Wendy at the ending of Switched, she and Rhys are just starting a reunion with a very worried Matt. It's a short reunion though; the Vittra show up, kidnapping Wendy along with Rhys and Matt. They are, of course, rescued and off to Forening they go. Only this time, Wendy has a bit more information under her belt and what she does with it is interesting, to say the least. While at the Vittra Kingdom a new character is introduced, Loki, a devastatingly handsome Vittra with a devil-may-care attitude who seems to care a little too much for Wendy.

Back at Forening, Wendy begins to hone her power under the tutelage of Tove Kroner; her odd and loyal friend. Willa remains a loyal friend, helping Wendy dodge one Faux pas after another, not to mention keeping her hair under control and Finn, SIGH, Finn, Finn, Finn... Finn is duty bound to protect Wendy, and that he does. He will protect her from anyone & everyone including theirselves.

Danger and suspense lurks, the Vittra are dangerous and powerful and they want Wendy...BAD. There are some Trylle who think its Wendy's fault that the Vittra are targeting them and a quick fix would be to turn her over and there are others who feel that Wendy is the one who will save them all. She is the one Trylle who is special; with special powers that will make her the best leader in Trylle history.

Wendy's character develops beautifully; she takes on her responsibilities Wendy style. The people in her life become more developed as the story moves along and there is a closer look into the interpersonal relationship between herself and Elora that is both touching and heart-breaking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing love story, not enough character development Feb 15 2011
By The Book Runner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
In this installment, Wendy starts falling for the enemy since Finn is keeping away from her. It is still a fairly simple story, without much emotional description which leaves the characters flat. Really, if Amanda Hocking would develop the characters by describing what they are feeling and what conflicting emotions they are dealing with that is making them act in such a way, the characters would be more likeable. As it is, they appear clueless and so does the reader. Wendy is always angry or upset and acts out irrationally at times. It would just be nice to like her since she is the main character. The kindle price and a desire to know how it ends is my recommendation for this work.

Would I/Did I buy it? Yes
Would I read it again? No
Would I recommend it to friends? Probably not

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever but poor editing Jan 8 2011
By Kate - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Although I thoroughly enjoyed reading her books, I had to wonder if anybody edited the books for missing words or the random addition of words that didn't need to be there. It certainly annoyed those of us that read and quickly pick up poor editing skills...did they even read it carefully???
