A TOUGH MAN TO TAME - Iris Johansen Her Fierce Protector or Savage Lover? Had she or fate chosen Louis Benoit to father the child she so desperately desired? Mariana Sandell wondered, as she evaded the stunningly handsome financial wizard's security and appeared without warning in the garden of his chateau. The business proposition she offered intrigued him beyond measure, but it was the mysterious lady herself he wanted--the sensual woman of secrets he must have. Tempted by pleasure she had never imagined, but tormented by a private sorrow she dared not confess, Mariana vowed to store up all the memories she could to sustain her through the darkness to come, the terror that stalked her dreams. Louis was moved by the courage beneath her brave facade, and stunned by the tender need she had to heal his wounds from a troubled past, but how could he fight the unseen danger that threatened to take his precious love from him? Could the magic of his Gypsy talisman let him share her pain and keep her with him forever?

A Passionate Treat, April 13 2010

Off the beaten path and sensual. I did so love Iris Johansen's Loveswepts. They are toe-curlingly steamy, yet nothing over the top or TMI territory.
Mariana is a serious geek, as in robot-inventing scientist, geeky. Let's here it for the nerdy girls! Louis is melt-your-fingers hot. He's urbane but rawly masculine. What a nice combination. The chemistry between the two is volcanic. I loved how Mariana is the agressor, even though she's quite the novice at it. Really good love scenes! They both have pain and baggage in their past. But together, their love bond provides mutual healing.
The concepts are somewhat paranormal, but it's done in a subtle fashion that I think wouldn't turn off any but hardened non-paranormal readers. I was happy to find out that this was part of the series of books that Ms. Johansen wrote about Sedikhan, although part takes place in France and Canada. I can't believe I missed reading this one back in the day (making note to find the others in this series).
This was a five star book for me because of the great chemistry, emotional intensity of the romance, and the unique, different feel to the storyline. I'm so glad I found this book in the clearance rack. I would have happily paid a lot more for a good read like A Tough Man to Tame.

I couldn't stand reading this. Yeah, I get that the heroine is supposed to be some socially awkward genius but she was completely unsympathetic in the beginning of the book and unfortunately her character did not recover. It was a first for me, but her outright inconsiderate and self-righteous behavior and her violation of the hero's privacy without giving any explanation, just repeating "you won't understand," made me seriously wish that the hero would just tell her to go to you-know-where and get out of his life, that she was crazy to think that anything she did was in the slightest way ok. i wanted her to be hurt emotionally and regret what she had done but the reader never receives any such satisfaction. any remorse that she demonstrated was so perfunctory and matter-of-fact that it left a bad taste in my mouth. its my understanding that when someone does something bad, esp in a romance, that there should be resolution...an apology, a separation, a feat, etc. there was none of that and it seriously irked me that i felt the hero never got any justice. for once i found myself wanting the conflict to surround a problem between the H/H when normally I prefer that the antagonistic force evolves outside of their relationship.
dont bother...it was too frustrating, i could barely finish.
