Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Certain people seem to exist to make us miserable. Glass, a California "communications expert," terms these terrors Toxic People and identifies 30 types, some with humorous labels such as the Smiling Two-Faced Sneaky Back-Stabber and the Eddie Haskell. She provides a Toxic People Quiz to help readers identify which category a suspect toxic terror falls into and suggests 10 techniques to handle these folk: Humor, Direct Confront, Calm Questioning, Give-Them-Hell-and-Yell, Love and Kindness, Vicarious Fantasy, etc. And since we're all toxic, to some degree, a section on Toxic Comments and a Toxic Image Inventory are offered to help readers identify their own destructive behaviors. While the book doesn't rise above pop psychology, it is entertaining. Author tour.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a Helpful Book!, Feb 28 2004
This review is from: Toxic People: 10 Ways Of Dealing With People Who Make Your Life Miserable (Paperback)
I found this book over the top and unsettling. The author has dumped more friends than most of us will ever have. I believe there are definitely toxic people in our lives, but this book reccomends saying extremely nasty, hateful things to these people and dumping them forever. I read this book hoping for coping mechanisms and understanding, but got more of a How- to- out-toxic-your-toxic-friends manual.

1.0 out of 5 stars it's really absurd, Oct 2 2005
This review is from: Toxic People: 10 Ways Of Dealing With People Who Make Your Life Miserable (Paperback)
this book makes fun of people who are imperfect, for example, they have a crooked teeth. i cannot believe she does this. what if people cannot afford to get their teeth corrected? she's just too extreme, this book makes you hate yourself that you don't fit into the description that she mentions about toxic people, . sorry

4.0 out of 5 stars Hysterical!!, Jun 18 2004

This review is from: Toxic People: 10 Ways Of Dealing With People Who Make Your Life Miserable (Paperback)
I bought this book because I work with an "angry pugilist" (as denoted by Dr. Glass). I found this book a very easy read, it was very amusing, so it kept my interest, unlike some of the other really dry ones. She identifies a bunch of different types of "toxic" people like "bitchy bossy bullies", "wishy washy wimp" "the mental case", and so many more. She gives explicit detailed desciptives of these people, then she gives examples of their behavior, and then she goes into techniques to deal with them. Although some of the come backs she uses are definitely brash, and I probably wouldn't say half of them, they are still REALLY funny, and as I read out loud at work, some of us were in tears laughing so hard. There are a few things I did learn from the book about myself actually, and if I can rethink the way I am, I may have better success dealing with miserable people.
