Product Description

From Amazon.com

The Cindy Sherman of comedy takes on all manner of subjects in the second season of her Emmy Award winning series. It begins, of course, with "Sex." In two of the better bits, puffy-lipped TV star Linda Granger tries to resist the charms of a hunky cable guy and boozy make-up artist Ruby Romaine--"like the lettuce"--prepares a porn star for his big scene. Later in "Fantasy," Romaine has a close encounter with a funky alien, while in "Las Vegas," Gardner mounts a disastrous comeback on "the strip of dreams." Other highlights include a sad look back at the childhood of airline steward Trevor Ayliss (with John Mahoney as his father) and caregiver Kay Clark's adventures in crime (with John Spencer as a cop). Other topics include mothers, secrets, 1976, food, movies, money, race relations, supernatural, politics, and music. Truth be told, not all of the characters are created equal. It's no wonder Ullman keeps returning to the colorful Granger and Romaine. Ethnically ambiguous donut shop owner Mrs. Noh Nang Ning and NYC cab driver Chic come perilously close to stereotype—which may be the point--but Her Royal Highness is a whole lot funnier. As with season one, Takes On "takes on" an impressive array of TV stars, like Michael McKean and Timothy Busfield ("Food"), John Stamos ("Movies"), and Spencer's West Wing colleague Bradley Whitford ("Vegas"). It also boasts a bevy of (mostly) big screen names, like Ron Perlman ("Secrets") and John Favreau ("Crime"), while recurring cast members include Julie Kavner, George Segal, and "the folically gifted" Seymour Cassel. In addition, Olivia Newton-John cameos in a dingo-filled flashback revolving around Australian stuntwoman Rayleen Gibson ("Childhood"). --Kathleen C. Fennessy

5.0 out of 5 stars Tracey's fantastic 2nd season, Sep 1 2009

This review is from: Tracey Takes On: The Complete Second Season (DVD)
I think the 2nd season is better than the first. These 15 episodes are more condensed, running approx. 23 min. per (as opposed to the 1st season episode run time of approx. 29 min. per). The shows seem more streamlined and creatively funny, focusing again on specific subject matter (ie. Supernatural, Politics, Las Vegas etc.), with many directed by Michael McKean. Others among the multitude of guest appearances include: Tim McInnerny, George Segal and Julie Kavner. (I wish there were more bonus features - although there is a commentary on one episode, the character focuses and slide show contain repeat material - and it could have used subtitles for the hearing impaired.) Overall, highly recommended - I think it's the best of Tracey Ullman.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Year 'Tracey Takes On' Took Off!, April 24 2006
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Tracey Takes On: The Complete Second Season (DVD)
This is absolutely the finest season ever done by a series. The writing was fresh, the directing was amazing, the stories were hilarious! Everything from a golf game with the devil, Ruby Romaine working on a [...] set, all the characters interacting in Vegas, Linda Granger's fall from stardom in the 1970s, Chic on the dancefloor doing Saturday Night Fever, Mrs. Noh Nang Ning as a child, Rayleen being raised by dingoes, Kay being the suspect in a bank robbery, not to mention Ruby get probed by aliens. There isn't a person in the world that would not find this season off the wall funny. This was also the season when Tracey Takes On, brought home the Emmys, and it so deserved it.

Buy it, put it in, and pee yourself laughing!

From the extras listed, extra footage is also included, including commentary, which just increases it's value!

I would have paid ANYTHING for this DVD. It's even better than the first season. Witty witty humor. I got some HARD laughs from this DVD. I can't wait until Season 3 is released!

A must-have for any Tracey fan. And the Amazon price is 5 dollars less than HBO.com's price!

She can do just about any character. I enjoyed this DVD. I saw her show once on HBO on vacation, loved it, but never saw much of her after that since I don't have HBO at home. Came across her DVDs, at a really good price, so had to have them.

Ruby Romaine (like the lettuce) and the Rosenthals are just hilarious. Either the first season or second season (can't remember which) has a skit with Ruby Romaine being abducted by aliens and one has the Rosenthals buying ostriches, hilarious. Some of her humor is a little racist and risque but if you keep an open mind and don't take any of her characters too seriously, you will laugh your head off. She's something else and can do almost any impersonation dead-on.
