Republic Pictures presents "TRAIL OF ROBIN HOOD" (15 December 1950) (64 mins/B&W/Color) (Fully Restored/Dolby Digitally Remastered) --- Roy Rogers (born Leonard Slye) moved to California in 1930, at the age of 18 --- played in such musical groups as The Hollywood Hillbillies, Rocky Mountaineers, Texas Outlaws and his own group, the International Cowboys --- In 1934 he formed a group with Bob Nolan and Tim Spencer called "Sons of the Pioneers" --- While in that group he was known as Leonard Slye, then Dick Weston and finally Roy Rogers --- Their songs included "Cool Water" and "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" --- They first appeared in the western "Rhythm on the Range" (1936), starring Bing Crosby --- In 1937 Roy went solo and made his first starring film in 1938, "Under Western Stars" (1938) --- He made almost 100 films --- then came television, "The Roy Rogers Show" (1951) ran on CBS from October 1951 through September 1964.

Carman (Sound/Sound Designer), Howard Lydecker (Special Effects), Theodore Lydecker (Special Effects) - - - - Our story line and plot, In the only Christmas themed B-Western that Roy ever made, he helps Jack Holt, a retired screen star, who sells Christmas trees at cost to help the poor --- When a crooked woodsman starts harvesting Holt's trees and selling them to a commercial tree business, roy intervenes and, with the assistance of several old time western stars, helps Holt get his trees to the city --- When McCall's henchmen make it tough for Holt to get his trees to market, young Sis McGonigle (Carol Nugent) sends out a call for help to nine of Holt's movie star buddies, including Allan `Rocky' Lane, Monte Hale, Rex Allen, William Farnum, Tom Keene (later to appear in the equally subtle PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE) and Tom Tyler (yes, Captain Marvel himself) and Ray Corrigan who were all with his studio and a few from past generations like Kermit Maynard, even veteran western "heavy" George Cheseboro, explaining "After 20 years of being beaten up by Holt and most of you heroes, you've reformed me." --- all pitched in to help old friend Holt rout the bag guys --- Action director William Witney as always takes us on an exciting trail with plenty of hard riding and great stunt work --- Must recommend the Happy Trails DVD's to you --- Each one has new information about Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and each actor or director in the film --- If you are a Roy Rogers and Dale Evans fan like me you will totally enjoy all the extra footage showing Roy and Dale going to parades and visiting children in hospitals, the story of Roy proposing marriage to Dale, and more inside info also about the family --- Each film starts out with Roy and Dale seated on a small stage back around 1987 talking about the sagebrush films they are showing --- some wonderful tunes, EV'RY DAY IS CHRISTMAS IN THE WEST -- GET A CHRISTMAS TREE FOR JOHNNY -- HOMETOWN JUBILEE -- ROLL ON TEXAS MOON.

Growing up watching the cowboy movie stars I found this movie one of the best. It had an excellent plot with great stars including those who had guest appearances. I miss all of these stars and I am grateful to be able to see them on video in my own home.

This is Roy at his heroic and charming best. Add the very versatile Jack Holt in one of his final films, Rocky Lane, Gordon Jones, and some of the great movie cowboy white and black hats of the 30's and 40's, along with Foy Willing and Riders of the Purple Sage for music, and you have plenty of action, comedy and music to go along with an OK plot. Some of the Tru-Color shots of the scenery are spectacular. Rex once told me he flew in from a road-tour and worked on the film for two days and flew back to continue his road show, and enjoyed working with Roy, one of his dearest friends. This is one of the better 'oaters' with plenty of action, music, and 'surprise' guest stars. A 'must' for fans of Roy, Rex, Rocky, Jack, and the genre!
