From Sharon L. Bowman, the author of the best-selling The Ten-Minute Trainer, comes the dynamic new book, Training from the BACK of the Room! This innovative resource introduces 65 training strategies that are guaranteed to deliver outstanding training results no matter what the topic, group, or learning environment may be. Now, trainers can replace the traditional "Trainers talk; learners listen" paradigm with a radical new model for designing and delivering instruction: "When learners talk and teach, they learn."
The author's four-step instructional design and delivery process involves learners every step of the way. Designed to be user-friendly, Training from the BACK of the Room! is filled with definitions, descriptions, and practical training strategies for each of the 4 Cs:
Connections—Fifteen opening activities that connect learners to the topic, to each other, and to what they want and need to learn.
Concepts—Twenty strategies that engage and involve learners during the lecture or "direct instruction" training segment.
Concrete Practice—Fifteen strategies in which learners actively review content and practice skills.
Conclusions—Fifteen learner-led summaries, evaluations, and celebration activities.
In addition, the book offers "nice-to-know" information that will add to what you have learned: the secret about adult learning theory, a new way to write learning outcomes, The World Cafe, tips for interactive e-learning, and other useful resources to expand your learning adventure.
"This is a great book—one I will gladly own, share, and recommend to others. It should be required reading for all learning professionals. The writing style is light, breezy, peer-to-peer, informative, and enjoyable. It is a fabulous addition to the current literature on teaching and learning."
—Lenn Millbower, The Learnertainment Trainer and author, Training with a Beat

Trainer from the middle of the room,

This review is from: Training From the Back of the Room!: 65 Ways to Step Aside and Let Them Learn (Paperback)
As a trainer, it is easy to talk too much... This book gives a lot of very good examples on how we can change that and start to let the learners really learn by themselves. After you read this book, you will definitely want to change the way you teach. The challenge is not to change our point of view on teaching, but to implement it in real world. This book will help you to achieve that.

This book revitalized my training workshops!,

Sharon Bowman's latest masterpiece, "Training from the BACK of the Room" came just in the nick of time. I'm planning a series of leadership workshops for a major client and I know that I need to get my training participants more involved in their learning. Sharon provides a comprehensive (but understandable) overview of adult learning principles and then proceeds to provide trainers of all skill levels with fun ideas to truly elevate the learning process. The best part about adopting Sharon's philosophies of training from the BACK of the room, is that my STRESS LEVEL as a trainer has decreased dramatically! I don't have to be the "sage on the stage" anymore! My training evaluations have always been very good, but I know Sharon's latest book is going to vastly improve the learning experience for all participants while simultaneously allowing me the freedom enjoy the sessions by their side. That's what I call a "win-win"! Thanks Sharon, for your abundance mentality in sharing your wisdom with other facilitators. I can't wait to see what you write next! I was looking for ways to change up my presentation style and techniques. I don't develop the presentation materials that I use to train...but they can be boring for me and my participants - they know what to expect all the time, because it is always the same. I was able to use some of the ideas instantly in the very next training class I did. I liked the versitility and the participants loved the change! I even persuaded a teammate to try the book, and now we are both experimenting and finding new techniques that fit our style, our training.

As a National Training Manager for a large financial services organization, I was thrilled to find this book, an easy to use and reference guide that is current and readily adaptable to both functional and soft skill training. My Trainers use several of the instructional strategies as our "standard" for delivering. In particular, the Interactive Lecture games are easy to adapt and use. BUY THIS BOOK!
