Appropriate for a younger audience, July 26 2009

This book, as you might guess, essentially retells the plot of the movie (with some minor changes for the sake of compression), accompanied by relatively simple but evocative illustrations. (Be aware that they are not nearly as detailed as the pictures on the book's cover.) The story is pretty well written. However, there is one significant difference from the film that will appeal to younger kids but might disappoint older fans.
In a nutshell, the action has been toned down from the movie's PG-13 to PG level. For example, in the movie, a certain robot gets fatally torn in half. In the book, he just gets "hit with a blast" and doesn't show up again. The violence in general has been significantly toned down. For those of us with small children who love the characters but are too young for the intensity of the movie's action, this is a nice substitute. On the other hand, older kids who are more familiar with the movie will probably be turned off by that. You'll have to judge whether this is appropriate for your child.

umm.. I guess it's alright for younger kids like my cousin Isaiah who is only 6 years old I am 14 so I was hoping for a captivating story but like I said it is for younger kids, I gave it three stars for the adjectives that were included, but sadly they were babyish, I'm actually a writer myself who is now beginning a Transformers novel, but back to the review I slightly enjoyed a bit of it, I sort of enjoyed some the illustrations, I think that the writer or adapter should have went to half price books to buy a thesaurus and I also appreciate the effort of the the illustrator, Marcelo Matere could have done a better job I mean it was okay but in my opinion the artwork was a tad sloppy, but overall it is a great book for YOUNGER kids if your over the age of 11,12,or 13 I would prefer the book Transformers: Bumblebee, it has more grabbing art and story.
thanks for reading.

A Worthwhile Investment for the Kids, May 9 2011

I can't belive the quality of this book! I've got two kids, but this was mainly for my six year old boy. I've got to say that my mouth was open in awe as much as his was (he hasn't seen the movie yet). The sheer quality of the book itself, including the pages and the binding, as well as the pictures (most pages are half picture, half words) took me back to my childhood and my Disney book collection that they don't make anymore. When we ordered what we thought was a return of those Disney books a few years ago, wow. Small books, paper-thin (no pun intended) pages and covers my son could bend and wreck on his own when he was just three years old.
But not this book. It's got some weight to it, the pages are glossy and thick, and for those reading it, it sticks to the main points of the story to move it along briskly and kee pit interesting. The pictures are of a hand-drawn, very "cartoon-ey" variety, which I think helps for the demographic that would most likely be following along with this. And it's LONG! We took two nights at bedtime to read the whole thing (although that was also answering questions along the way), so I can truly say you get your money's worth with this book. It actually cost me more to ship the book than the book itself did, so hands down, worth every penny.
