Product Description

Product Description

"Transformers" began with toys and a cartoon series in 1984 and has since grown to include comic books, movies, and video games -- its science fiction story has reached an audience with a wide range second only to that of "Star Wars." Here, in "Transformers and Philosophy, " a dream team of philosophers pursues the fascinating questions posed by humankind's encounter with an artificially intelligent mechanical civilization: Is genuine artificial intelligence possible? Would a robotic civilization come with its own morality and artistic life, and would it find a need for romantic love? Should we be more careful about developing robots that may eventually develop ideas of their own? "Transformers and Philosophy" puts "Transformers" under a microscope and exposes its philosophical implications in an instantly readable way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Essays, July 14 2009
By adam - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Transformers and Philosophy (Paperback)
There are a number of solid essays on Transformers in this volume. While not forgetting the sheer "fun-factor" of the cartoons (and movies), most of the authors manage to find some important ideas -- sometimes even profound ones -- and bring these to the fore.

fun! I love the 'and philosophy' series! so many varieties, I love them for myself and as gifts! a good read, I bought this particular book for my bathroom only reader boyfriend, I've got him several books out of this series and he actually likes them (and finishes them too!)

I am not an avid reader, so this book was a challenge for me to get through. However, once read, it is very enlightening and relatable for those who are transformer fans.
