Product Description

From Amazon.com

Progressive bluegrass master Tim O'Brien has often pursued a very personal brand of eclecticism. It has led him on inspired forays into Celtic, Cajun, and occasionally even mainstream country. A Cajun flavor, courtesy of Dirk Powell's tasty accordion playing, sometimes informs this 12-song salute to the peripatetic life. Yet along with jaunty, footloose celebrations like "Kelly Joe's Shoes" and lighthearted odes to love and lust ("Fall Into Her Deep Blue Eyes"), O'Brien also ponders the deeper paradoxes of the heart and spirit in introspective songs like "I've Endured," "Restless Spirit Wandering" and "Family History." As always, O'Brien doesn't fence in his muse. His plaintive singing and masterful mandolin and bouzouki playing even conjure a spirit of Old World melancholy on the gently despairing title tune. --Bob Allen

Everything about this CD is great. Mar 19 2004
Format:Audio CD
I just turned 63 and I think I've finally found the music I want to listen to the rest of my life. As far back as I can remember I've always had to be listening to music. Now that I'm retired and can do almost anything I want to, I discovered the Merlefest in my search for things to do. After reviewing some of the artist's music that will be performing at the fest I discovered Tim O'brien. I immediately purchased TRAVELER and I haven't been the same since. I can't quit listening to this CD. I will probably listen to it all the way from Iowa to North Carolina on the way to the fest next month. Like my best friend says, You got to be dead not to like this music. Enough said.

at the age of 16, it might seem a little odd that I'm reviewing this. well...I grew up on this kind of music. and Tim O'Brien has always been one of my favorite musicians. this CD is definitely something you need to add to your collection. I love "Family Ties", and "Travelers" (the title track) is absolutely beautiful. I love the imagery in his music, and his voice is wonderful

Traveler Nov 6 2003
Format:Audio CD
I first heard Tim O'Brien's music on the radio recently, on a public (non-commercial) radio station. They played "Another Day" from this album during their pledge drive, and I was hooked--just had to get the album. I like most of the songs, but another favorite is "Restless spirit wandering." I have a difficult time finding bluegrass, folk, celtic etc. on the radio, and I don't particularly care for modern country--too twangy and whiny. So this is a breath of fresh air!

A Gem From Start to Finish
I rarely write reviews because albums these days are rarely worthy of the effort. Tim O'Brien is the exception and Traveler's epitomizes this. Read more
