Book Description

Nov 1 2010 Traveler's Guide series

Detailed routes and advice for exploring Alaska and northwestern Canada are provided in this guide for RV and tent campers. This grand tour of Alaska covers in detail the Alaskan Highway, routes throughout the Yukon and Alaska, and the ferry system in southeastern Alaska. Close to 500 campgrounds throughout the region are listed with pictures, descriptions of amenities, meticulous maps, and contact information for each; campgrounds suitable for large RVs are also identified. Along with important details for a safe trip—such as border crossings, budget planning, vehicle preparation or renting an RV, appropriate clothing, road conditions, and possible wildlife encounters—recreational information on hiking, mountain biking, boating, rafting, kayaking, and viewing wildlife is provided for each destination. This new edition has updated information on all the campsites, maps, GPS data, websites, prices, and contact information.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very accurate and now a well-thumbed favourite! Jun 27 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
We rented an RV in Anchorage and were in it for 15 days, completely dependent on books and maps, given the scarcity of WIFI -- so glad we had this one! Mini-maps, descriptions of campgrounds, things to watch for and overall commentary was right on, and so helpful in planning our days. We did not make reservations ahead of time, so consulted the book each evening for the next days routing and destinations. This is a "must have" if you're going to do an Alaskan road trip!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best camping and road guide value Sep 28 2008
Format:Paperback
Bought this book and then went to Alaska in 27 foot MH from Calgary for 5 weeks. Stayed in campgrounds recommended by book and used book to choose what general area to head for each day. Really really happy with the excellent descriptions and how to find some unmarked campgrounds. This book made our trip far better than it would have been if we had just used Woodalls.
