Product Description

"He is not mad... but he has power to drive others to it."

When Lucius Aurelius, commander of the Castasian mercenaries in service to the Torpani Empire is arrested for treason, he turns the world upside down. His mystified wife, faced with the Emperor's petulant proxy, must save herself and her children from their father's fate. His trusted aide finds himself motivated by more than sworn fealty when enlisted to help her. Emperor Maximian is forced to a judgment he would rather not make when Lucius, his best officer, twice refuses a direct order. The Emperor's Castasian courtesan is finally confronted by a truth she has denied for years - and an ancient power is roused in Lucius's eight-year-old daughter; a power that he alone must teach her to control before it destroys her.

Sentenced to public execution between chariot races at the Imperial Forum, he is driven to return to Nerona, where the world he has shaped is threatened by treachery closer to home, and where the past he abandoned has become his child's future...

5.0 out of 5 stars Begging For The Next In The Series, Mar 14 2005

This review is from: Treason (Paperback)
I've rarely been pulled into a book so completely. The writing is amazing! Every character was fully fleshed out and fascinating. Each scene painted completely vivid with the words the authoress used. As I read, I felt like I was there and, now that the book is over, I still find myself thinking of certain scenes and characters throughout the day.

Most books I pick up have at least a couple of scenes in them that I scan-read to get to a more exciting section, but not this one. I was emotionally invested the whole way through. I'd say that this is an impressive 'first novel', but really this is an impressive novel period. When the next book in the series is out, I'm going to be first in line to place my order for it.

P.S. I scan publishing sites to check out new novels before heading over to Amazon and that's how I found this book. If you check out trafford.com, you can see the cover art and read an excerpt from Treason.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm 'fixed in the fire'!, Mar 13 2005
This review is from: Treason (Paperback)
Treason is masterful. This cast of powerful and unforgettable characters took me on a poignant journey to explore the themes of pending war, rage, anger, passion, hope and the power of human connections and family.

Ruth R. Greig is a refreshing and talented writer who really knows how to engage a reader. Her descriptions are lush and gorgeous. I am in awe of her vision, imagination and gift of storytelling. Greig crafted a tremendous tale, one I think would translate beautifully on the screen as well.

I am truly fixed in the fire. I miss the characters already and have only just finished the book! I cannot WAIT to read the next installment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable Read!, Mar 9 2005

I just loved reading the first book by Ruth R. Greig! I couldn't put it down! I was enthralled by the creation of such intricate thought lives in her characters, and the interplay of these thoughts displayed in convincing explosions of emotion, whether it was in silent screams of grief, the tenderest love of a child, or the icy destruction of hatred. Ms. Greig pulled me into the story, and I felt it, not just read it. Her characters developed throughout the chapters into complex and frustrated personalities that we can all identify with! The players in this tragedy all came alive to me, and I was always on the edge of my seat wondering what in the world would happen next. WHEN is the next book coming out?!
