Product Description

From Amazon

Climb aboard for the swashbuckling adventure of a lifetime. Treasure Islandhas enthralled (and caused slight seasickness) for decades. The names Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins are destined to remain pieces of folklore for as long as children want to read Robert Louis Stevenson's most famous book. With it's dastardly plot and motley crew of rogues and villains, it seems unlikely that children will ever say no to this timeless classic. --Naomi Gesinger --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From School Library Journal

Gr 7 Up-The archetypal sea-faring adventure story is given another rousing and dramatic rendition in this quickly paced abridged entry in Hodder's top-flight Classic Collection series. The critical plot and subplot threads have been beautifully retained, and all the classic lines like "shiver me timbers" have been included. Stalwart English actor Richard Griffiths handles the bulk of the narrative chores flawlessly and is particularly effective in his pacing. He is capably assisted by Gareth Armstrong who, inexplicably, is uncredited on the cassette case. The subtle use of occasional sound effects such as gulls, lapping waves, and cannon and gunshot enhances this superb version of Stevenson's masterpiece. All collections should make room for this fine work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting, Mar 24 2012
This review is from: Treasure Island (Hardcover)
This was a terrific book for kids to read: it has adventure, excitment, and a happy ending from the point of view of the main character.

2.0 out of 5 stars Treasure Island, Jan 14 2012
This review is from: Treasure Island (Hardcover)
The text was OK, but the book was hopelessly small for a child. It only had B&W illustrations! The print was very small too. The child I got it for was very disappointed!

Amazon needs to indicate each books size and indicate whether or not it has colour illustrations.l

Candidly, I felt 'ripped off' by Amazon's poor information.

4.0 out of 5 stars A staple of classic literature, Aug 9 2010

This review is from: Treasure Island (Hardcover)
As soon as you read Treasure Island a world of references, and subtle allusions will open up to you. An untold number of books, television shows, and movies draw inspiration or humourous suggestion from this well written and well recieved novel.
The tale is not very complex or erudite so as to turn one off and is a relief in its simplicit yet charming story. A great classic to use to introduce your burgeoning children to the classics.
The embossed binding of this particular edition is an additional asset to this book.
