4.0 out of 5 stars A good book, could have been better Dec 24 2002
Treasure Planet is now my favorite Disney movie. I am currently a student of animation and have not seen a Disney movie as well animated as this one since Tarzan. I am sorry to see that Disney is abandoning this film so quickly in its early stages by cutting back on its advertisement funds. Despite this, however,I hope that Disney plans on releasing a BETTER book than this art book. While this book goes into depth about the animation production process as well as showing some rough animation by my two heroes, Glen Keane and John Ripa, I cannot but feel that this book could hold even more than it does. In conclusion, while this book holds great information for me as a fan of Disney, it doesn't seem to include ENOUGH. It's good for a short read, but don't buy it unless you REALLY like Disney animation, or the movie.

This sort of new type of "Behind the Scenes" and "The Art of" books created lately by disney is great. The price is more than just right. The quality of the form is awesome: great pictures, quality of the paper... and the content is very good also: a real close up look at the process of making the film. Also, a very interesting analysis of the virtual world created by Disney for this film. When I saw the movie I simply enjoyed it. Now that the video-dvd is comming out, I can't wait to own it and watch the film again, thanks to this book. The analysis of all the parafernalia, the planets that were created, the imagery, the psychological study of the characters and the animation itself, both 2D and 3D is really good. I truly recommend this book to any Disney aficionado. It helps you understand the film better. Also, the process of its creation. It's a treasure in itself. You don't need to go to any planet to get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful piece for any fan or collector Dec 21 2002
I thorougly enjoyed the movie "Treasure Planet" for the art as much as the story. It really was one of Disney's most beautiful films.
That's why I enjoyed this book so much. It gives an in-depth look at the art, the style, the making, etc. Each character is discussed with their background. Best of all, there are amazing pictures--sketch, rough-draft, final--that are absolutely georgous.
This book is a great look into the movie. If you loved "Treasure Planet", you will appreciate this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Should be available in HARDCOVER format April 27 2003

The book's overview of the movie is excellent, but Disney fans deserve a more durable chronicle (i.e., hardcover) of the film! Likewise, there was no hardcover tome of "Lilo & Stitch", much to the displeasure of many hardcore Disney fans (including myself).
The upcoming Disney/Pixar film, "Finding Nemo", has a companion book that is a quality sewn hardcover. Why doesn't Disney itself insist on such top-quality books for _all_ films produced under its own (exclusive) label?
