I have the previous 2-CD volume of the Time Life Treasury of Christmas. I was actually looking to replace a lost volume #1, but this caught my eye as it had all the same song plus some extras. I should have read further, in that it is full orchestrated with full choral performances, not individual performers. It is an okay album, considering that it was only $9 for two cd's of over 50 songs. The thing is, the orchestration is overly done with long winded (read that lots of extra notes) stanza's of instruments playing fanfare that detracts from the actual piece being played. (It's as if they are being payed by the note). Further, almost half the songs are sung in an almost monotone manner by the choir. It's as if they have been drilled at the performance so long that the emotion has all been drained out of it. This is a Christmas performance, it should be WAY more upbeat in it's performances and it's not. I think this will be a CD that I play in the background at dinner parties during the holiday, but I certainly won't be playing it to "get in the spirit" or for my own enjoyment.
