Not as good as the previous Time-Life Xmas series with individual performers Dec 15 2009
By A. Ackerman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
I have the previous 2-CD volume of the Time Life Treasury of Christmas. I was actually looking to replace a lost volume #1, but this caught my eye as it had all the same song plus some extras. I should have read further, in that it is full orchestrated with full choral performances, not individual performers. It is an okay album, considering that it was only $9 for two cd's of over 50 songs. The thing is, the orchestration is overly done with long winded (read that lots of extra notes) stanza's of instruments playing fanfare that detracts from the actual piece being played. (It's as if they are being payed by the note). Further, almost half the songs are sung in an almost monotone manner by the choir. It's as if they have been drilled at the performance so long that the emotion has all been drained out of it. This is a Christmas performance, it should be WAY more upbeat in it's performances and it's not. I think this will be a CD that I play in the background at dinner parties during the holiday, but I certainly won't be playing it to "get in the spirit" or for my own enjoyment.

***Outstanding value with 50 spiritual and XMAS classical songs Nov. 19 2009
By J. C Lee - Published on Amazon.com

This selection of religious and traditional Christmas songs is the best bargain on the Internet. The orchestra is the Royal Philharmonic, the national orchestra of Great Britian. Some selections feature outstanding vocalists. The producers at Time-Life have basically chosen the best songs from the 6-CD set that is offered for sale on the Time-Life Web site.

Time Life Treasury of Christmas Traditions Dec 4 2010
By David J. Franklin - Published on Amazon.com

Received the Time Life Treasury of Christmas Traditions...the music is sung by a choir and NOT by original artists. I am disappointed and will return the CD. The music was so bad that I would not play the CD again.

You can not go wrong with Time Life music CD's. There is nothing like the classics that haven't been ruined by some of todays "artists". I have the whole set and there is nothing like them.
